What about Laurel Schroeder’s performance did you like?

Laurel gives a wonderful performance. I would be more apt to chose a book if narrated by Laurel

Any additional comments?

When Sabre is called into the judges chambers to speak with the judge alone she knows it's against the code of ethics and requests another lawyers presence. When she attempts to bring in a witness the judge becomes irate and throws her out. Later that night the judge is killed by a hit and run driver.

Sabre's teenage client is accused of murder and Sobs is not sure he is innocent. But it is her duty to defend him anyway. She hits a few bumps along the way.
Reluctant to turn to JP for help because his former wife is staying with him she feels she must do most of the work herself. And with a new man in her life she is a very busy lawyer.
In spite of the light hearted moments and the mystery of the case the author addresses the problem of domestic violence in a real but yet nongraphic way
For me, Teresa Burrell's books are like potato chips, you can't stop with just one. I hope that the author keeps the series coming. I must confess I've got a little crush on JP, and I want my own Bob.

Have you listened to any of Laurel Schroeder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have only listened to 4 books, two of them narrated by Laurel. She is fantastic.

Any additional comments?

When Sabre opens her office in the morning she is suprised to find a dead body sprawled across her desk. It starts to get interesting when the body is identified as the husband of one of Bob's clients. We add a cop who has a grudge against JP and things heat up fast.
It doesn't look good for Bob.
Again the book has its lighthearted moments and still addresses the problems parents pass on to their children. The cases assigned to the lawyers reflect everyday life and things children must endure in the real world but the author is not on a soap box.
There is always an unexpected twist. JP's expressions alone are worth the cost of the book and are an added bonus. I loved the book and would recommend it to all my friends.

Any additional comments?

Sabre and Bob are back in action. We have missing babies, teenage runaways, over zealous social workers, and hints of witchcraft. It's up to Sobs and Bob to represent their clients and figure out exactly what is happening. Their private investigator is there to help.
Well written, fast paced, with characters so well defined that the reader feels like they are friends.
The book has it's comic moments and yet still speaks to the damages drugs are doing to our children without being “preachy”.
Another winner from this author. I enjoyed it, read it more than once to be honest and would highly recommend it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

You gotta love JP

Any additional comments?

Sabre is awakened in the middle of the night with a phone call from a good friend Betty, who has just found her murdered husband in their bed. Naturally she rushes to her aid, acting as a friend until she realizes that she should be thinking like the lawyer she is.
Earlier in the evening Sabre, Betty and Sabre's wonderful new boyfriend Luke had all gone to the casino. They weren't together the whole time so Betty doesn't really have an alibi.
The next day Sobs (derived from her initials Sabre Orin Brown) and her work husband Bob, agree to do everything they can do to help Betty, Both .working pro bono .
The characters Sobs and Bob worth with in juvinial court are so well described you want to either hate them, comfort them, or just shake your head in amazement.

Betty isn't very forthcoming with her past so Sabre's investigator JP, begins looking into things. His searches only lead to more confusion.
Nothing is as it seems and that gives the plot more twists and
turns than a carnival ride. The book is one of those books that I couldn't put down. I had to know what happened next. And what mystery would be complete without a surprise ending?
The narrator was excellent. The slight variations in her voice (different characters with a slightly different sound) made for an excellent performance.

Where does The Advocate rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is my first from audible. I preferred the Audible method. Other books I've read had sound effects that at times we distracting,

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Advocate?

When Alexis defies her father and escapes with Sabre comes second to Sabre getting a visit from Ron.

What about Summer Rona’s performance did you like?

Summer's voice was clear and easy to listen to. I liked the fact that she just read the book as opposed to acting it out (using different voices for different characters. I did notice that she was not consistent in pronouncing Sabre's name.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed at Sabre chasing the doctor down the hall and asking him to show her his legs. I cried when she was able to see her brother.

Any additional comments?

In this first book of the series we meet Sabre (aka Sobs) and her closest friend and her associate Bob. Both are lawyers who work in the Juvenile Court System in San Diego. They often work on the same case, sometimes on opposite sides, but they both have a strong commitment to the children and work doesn't change their friendship. Bob is a big support to Sabre as she deals with the disappearance of her brother
A parent who is not pleased with the courts decision and takes matters into his own hands.
The book is exciting, funny in some cases and opens a person's eyes to the evil that still exists in this world.
If you like exciting legal themed books this book is for you. I loved it.
