Plodding is the single word I'd describe the book.
Revisado: 01-28-14
I almost gave up on this book after listening to the 5 first chapters, for they focused on depressing, very slow moving details about life as, and with, an Asperger. However, even when it finally became clear what the story was all about, it was obvious very early on how the story would end - all because no one ever asked a few very focused questions of the person charged with a serious crime. They were finally asked at the very end of the book - as expected. Plodding is the single word I'd describe the book.

Devoted Alex Cross fans will love this one!
Revisado: 03-11-13
Patterson has got the Alex Cross recipe down cold - and follows it faithfully here. A reliable mix of fascinating bad guys tormenting Cross, Cross's own demons tormenting him and a rich cadre of supporting players who both help and hinder Cross as he fights to get the scent and then follows it like the talented, committed bloodhound that he is.

PLODDING
Revisado: 10-04-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
If I had not paid for this book, I would have stopped listening long before the end. Somehow, after having put out some of my money for it, I felt compelled to stick it out and listen to the end.
Plodding is the best word to descibe my take on this book. Plodding and boring. At times it almost felt like the author was intentionally stretching things out, filling up space on blank pages by babbling on endlessly with mindless details that added nothing to the plot or the characters.
Would you ever listen to anything by Karin Slaughter again?
probably not

Shockingly boring
Revisado: 04-09-11
How could such an accomplished author produce a work that plods as much as this one? After 6 hours of listening I threw in the towel as it was just too painful. I'll continue to be a fan of his stories, but this book was a huge mistake.

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

If this book doesn't scare you, you're brain dead
Revisado: 09-06-09
This book scared the hell out of me - as it was intended to do. It's a real life doom's day scenario that's not at all hard to envision happening in our lifetime. Just as 9/11 occurred one sunny Septemeber morning, so could this scenario occur on any day of your life - and mark the end of the United States as it has come to be.

I Feel Manipulated
Revisado: 09-06-09
If you are considering getting this book in order to experience another great adventure of Alex Cross - forget it. Alex Cross's name is boldly included in the title of this book, but this book is NOT about him - not at all. It's about an ancestor of his. While the story that's the basis for the book is okay, James Patterson and the publisher blatantly manipulates potential readers by including in the book's title the name of a well known and much beloved character - Alex Cross. We deserve better and they should be appropriately criticized.

Potential not fully realized
Revisado: 07-25-03
Readers who would are looking for the focus to be on character development, of both the professor and the madman, are going to be disappointed. However, readers who want a great deal of the book?s focus to be the development of a dictionary, they?ll be very pleased.
This is an amazing story ? and perhaps a terrific film. But this book teases more than is satisfies ? as regards understanding the madman.
A special treat of the recorded book is an interview by the author after the story is told.

Four years ago, LAPD detective Harry Bosch was on a movie set, asking questions about the murder of a young production assistant, when an armored car arrived with $2 million cash for use in a heist scene. In a life-imitates-art firestorm, a gang of masked men converged on the delivery and robbed the armored car with guns blazing. The crime was never resolved, and the young woman's murder was in the stack of unsolved-case files Bosch carried home the night he left the LAPD.

Another Solid Harry Bosch Who-Dun-It
Revisado: 07-11-03
This series could go on as long as James Bond movies....one solid story after another. Patterson's eye for detail, along with the continued development of real-life, flawed characters, together with an interesting mix of story twists all leads to a I-don't-want-this-book-to-end experience.
