Historia
Centuries in the past, mankind fought a seemingly unbeatable adversary from sector to sector across the Spiral Arm until the war ground to a standstill and the Enemy withdrew. Believing that they had won, the citizens of the galaxy rebuilt. The Inner Worlds, which had escaped the worst of the war's ravages, became even more insular, while the Rim worlds adopted a free and easy way with law and order. Now, hundreds of years after their withdrawal, the Enemy is back - and this time they'll be satisfied with nothing less than the extinction of the galaxy.

I've seen the movie, and read the book...
Revisado: 02-18-25
I found the narration of "Little Big Man" to be the best I've ever heard. Rarely did my mind wander off during this book, and that was more likely due to the task I was doing at the time. I highly recommend this title

It is pulp fiction at it's finest!
Revisado: 03-28-24
This is a review of the entire series.
Mark Tufo is my brother, the things he writes about...that's me (minus the zombies of course). Some of the partying, right down to joining the Marine Corps. I feel like I know what Talbot is going to say before he say's it. These books have made me laugh out loud many times, and that almost never happens with me. I say again, "I laughed out loud". While I had ear buds in.
Ex.-"If he was anymore in bred, he would be a sandwich"
I love this guy (Tofu, Tufo) and plan on reading everything he sets down to write. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next

Historia
In April 1975, Ralph White was asked by his boss to transfer from the Bangkok branch of the Chase Manhattan Bank to the Saigon Branch. He was tasked with closing the branch if and when it appeared that Saigon would fall to the North Vietnamese army and ensure the safety of the senior Vietnamese employees. But when he arrived, he realized the situation in Saigon was far more perilous than he had imagined. The senior staff members there urged him to evacuate the entire staff of the branch and their families, which was far more than he was authorized to do.

Compelling. True. A human angle of the fall
Revisado: 03-22-24
I had a front row seat at the end of the evac as a young 18-year-old Marine standing offshore on Navy vessels. I have always had a soft spot for the Viet people, Especially the Montagyard. This story presents a whole new side of the evac and the refugees, that I had never imagined.
Ralph White is a HERO. Why have we never heard his name before?

If you're a fan...
Revisado: 03-09-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I immersed myself in it while driving across the country. I discovered nuggets about the band, learned about Geddy and Alex early years. I loved it. Bittersweet at times, with all the heartache Neil Peart went through and then his finale. I was a big fan up until about '82. When they "hit it" commercially with Tom Sawyer, I lost interest. My resurgent love of Hi-Fi has led me to build a couple of systems and I'm reliving their early days, and acquiring and listening to their newer Oldies.
Thank you Geddy. You made a difference!

The narrator can make it or break it...
Revisado: 11-18-23
This is the third narrator in 5 books. I REALLY do not like bashing narrator's, but I found myself constantly wandering off and having to rewind. Mr. Lee has a monotone delivery and seems to be reading through a script quickly. Does he get paid by the word?
I liked the first 2 narrators just fine, and oh look! Here comes another new narrator for the next installment. I'll give it a go, hopefully I won't be disappointed. If I am I'll be voting with my pocketbook

Book 3 Lords of the North
Revisado: 11-06-23
I REALLY like the new narrator, Tom Sellwood. His inflection is spot on, as is his accent. His voice sounds like the correct age also. Mr. Keeble sounded way to old for me. I get that you like to keep the original voice, but I felt like I had to come on here and defend the new narrator. To bad he is only being used for this one book it appears.

The first book in C.J.Cherryh's eponymous series, Foreigner begins an epic tale of the survivors of a lost spacecraft who crash-land on a planet inhabited by a hostile, sentient alien race. From its beginnings as a human-alien story of first contact, the Foreigner series has become a true science fiction odyssey, following a civilization from the age of steam through early space flight to confrontations with other alien species in distant sectors of space. It is the masterwork of a truly remarkable author.

Pedantic is too short a word for the endless blather. The hours of nothing. 7 hours into it I can't take anymore. Maybe this would be a good read, instead of an audible, but for me, this book is a total bust

Theater of the Mind...
Revisado: 04-12-22
I really liked this audible original. People are complaining about background noises and mouth noises. I did not hear anything out of the norm, and the sample should alert those that are easily offended to not buy this title. I like the immersion of it all
For me, I want more. The author's left me wanting more and wondering if I will get it
