Historia
Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other kids did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

Very Descriptive
Revisado: 04-27-25
I enjoyed listening to the descriptions of why and how Patric did the things that she did. This book was a great resource for me because I’m a therapist. It also gave me a lot of information that I can use in my practice.

I think that the narrator was amazing and the writing was very descriptive, but it just wasn't for me. After a while the names were all the same and the plots blended together. It just wasn't for me.

Couldn't Wait To Listen To It
Revisado: 01-13-25
What I meant was that I couldn't wait to listen to it while I wasn't driving or walking to the point where I would make excuses to go somewhere for more listening time (it's difficult to listen at home b/c of the constant distractions). And after a lot of driving and lots of walking, I finally finished. It was such a wonderful book, and it ended in a different way than I would've thought, and it was great!
I thought I knew a lot about the history of the Warsaw ghetto, but I learned so much more from Lisa Barr. I will be listening to a few more of her books because that's just how much I like her writing.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

I wasn’t expecting to like it, let alone love it! I can’t believe what a good writer Kristin Hannah is. And Polly Stone as the narrator was a perfect match to the story. 100% all around.

Historia
On February 17, 2022, Brittney Griner arrived in Moscow ready to spend the WNBA offseason playing for the Russian women’s basketball team where she had been the centerpiece of previous championship seasons. Instead, a security checkpoint became her gateway to hell when she was arrested for mistakenly carrying under one gram of medically prescribed hash oil. Brittney’s world was violently upended in a crisis she has never spoken in detail about publicly—until now.

So Good! So Surprised!
Revisado: 09-25-24
What a great story this was. A true story of a strong and vulnerable woman.
When I first heard BG’s story in the news I was totally going all Karen on her, obviously ignorant as to what led up to her arrest. Then I remembered a time in 2015 when I was at the TSA check in at LAS and the agent asked me to step to the side as he carried my bag, a CamelBak that had a lot of secret pockets, to the side table. Apparently they saw a lighter or something during the scan. It was then that a light went off in my head because I remembered that I had a pipe in the very end pocket. It had been in there for a week or two, and I just forgot about it. Just like BG. Luckily I was in the USA, because I doubt I would’ve been writing this if I had been in Russia.
What kind of person cries during the Star Spangled Banner after accepting one of the USA Women’s Basketball Team’s Gold medals at the Olympics?
A strong and vulnerable one.
Oh, what happened to me that day with TSA? While I was praying to the universe, the agent actually found a lighter! He found what he was looking for and he was satisfied, which is another lesson I learned from BG’s story:
Don’t EVER be satisfied! You never know what is in that next pocket.

Revisado: 12-19-23
This story was so riveting that I almost missed my turn on the freeway. How sad that America hasn't learned how to treat the Native Americans to this day. I can't imagine that almost an entire tribe was murdered. Disgusting blight on our history... again.

The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

Historia
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.
