Awesome, but not an easy read.
Revisado: 06-13-19
If you are looking for a quick, clean murder mystery to read in bed to help you fall asleep., don't read this. This one will make you laugh, cry, cringe, and remember. Besides the suspense, plot twists, and excruciating descriptions of horrific murder, this story slowly reveals how one family disintegrated after losing a beloved daughter and big sister. Even after decades, the loss haunts all their lives.
The writing and narration works to invokes the reader to compare their own memories of father, mother, sisters. Good or bad, this story will make you feel something.

It ticks all the boxes.
Revisado: 02-20-19
It has all the usual elements of court intrigue. I look forward to seeing the story flesh out. I like my heroes with swords. Its interesting that our hero wasn't a golden beauty, but a scarred and abused grizzled soldier. It will be interesting to hear how she came to get all those scars. She reminds me of Elizabeth Moon's Paksenarrion. One of my favorite series.

Historia
Six months after Hurricane Katrina has devastated most of New Orleans, detective Sept Savoie is battling the nightmare of everything the storm has taken from her when a brutalized body turns up behind one of New Orleans's most famous restaurants, which is run by Keegan Blanchard. The more Sept works through the clues, the more they point to Keegan, which makes the relationship growing between them anything but love at first sight. The first death is only the beginning, though, as the miles of deserted neighborhoods Katrina left behind provide the perfect stage for murder.

Interesting read . . .
Revisado: 10-14-18
Having lived through Katrina and it's aftermath, this book brought back a lot of dark memories. I know this was a work of fiction, but the author did a good job in painting the city during a dark time. It was easy for me to visualize the places I loved the characters. I loved the name Sept, being the seventh and last child in my own family. The book made me laugh and had me on the edge of my seat. Very entertaining!

Riveting, romantic, and sometimes very tragic. The story kept me listening. The narration could have had a better delivery on some of the more horrifying segments of the story.

Intelligent, witty and funny as hell. I thoroughly enjoyed this escapade through small town academia. A nice glimpse of "being raised a catholic school girl" and having all the religious dogma blown away was hilarious. Listening to Christine Williams' narration always makes Ann McMan's books a delight!

A typical light murder mystery. Main character is a bit quirky. .It's a great break from the many edgy, gory, terrorizing stories being written today.

I Want More, But . . .
Revisado: 09-16-18
This story stops with this small group of survivors. The tale would evolve into a national and /or global story of invasion. I am satisfied with how it ended. They escaped the threat, the Hero gets the girl, and saves the day, at least in this small part of the world. It reminded me very much of the '50's science fiction movies. I loved that.

Not your usual Lesbian Romance novel.
Revisado: 04-27-18
Would you consider the audio edition of The Art of Peeling an Orange to be better than the print version?
The audio version was well done. I usually prefer the written word, but this story made me buy the print version. I like to go back and reread certain phrases or parts of a book when it is as well written as this.
What did you like best about this story?
Mysterious, unpredictable, intriguing and tragic, echoes of Orpheus. I loved that about this book. It keeps the reader wondering whats going to happen next.
Have you listened to any of Christine Williams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've listened to several of Christine William's performances. Her voice is the reason I bought this audio book. She makes each of her characters very distinct. She makes every book she performs a delight. I've been a very prolific reader of printed books all my life. Due to physical hardships I have had to turn to Ebooks and audio books. Many voice actors either put me to sleep or grate on my nerves. Christine Williams's voice immerses me into the story and characters. .
Who was the most memorable character of The Art of Peeling an Orange and why?
Anna Garibaldi of course. The illustration of "Don't judge a book by its cover. Uncovering all her mysteries was like peeling an orange.
