Historia
Told with humor and wit, Scraping Pegs is a bold narrative; including “rules” to help you survive the art of riding and life. Press an experienced rider beyond their glory stories, and they’ll tell you about the miles of nothingness. While showing off their road rash, they may share special moments, cruising down the road to joy, accelerating out of a corner, riding across desert sand, or up a mountain trail.

Great narrator. Subpar book.
Revisado: 05-29-22
The narrator was very good, especially to be reading such a mediocre book. The author seems to think the total truth about motorcycles is that they will be involved in your death if you ride them. He cannot seem to see any larger purpose or benefit in riding other than to consider your eventual mortality due to them. He gets hurt pretty bad and writes a book about how afraid he is and how afraid you should be. He glazes this encouraged fear in "curmudgionism" but can't seem to find any appreciation for what so many other riders find in the saddle. His "rules" are not bad advice in general, but he does not seem to have the depth to consider the benefit of other rules like "make friends with those that want the best for you."
While the book does contain some truisms about motorcycles, it amounts to a long winded version of what could be said over a cup of coffee. So much of the truth about motorcycles is missing from these pages. I will not look for the advertised sequel to see if any truth is there.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

A good book, worth it,but a little self important.
Revisado: 05-29-22
Overall a good book. Enlightening in a way few deep dive books are. Wonderful insight about the 60's and how government was steering the culture and studied the resultant crash. My only complaint is about the lengthy discussion of the publication history of the book itself. A fascinating book otherwise.

Historia
In his mid-20s, Jimmy was bored, boring, unfulfilled and underachieving. He wasn't exactly depressed, but he was very sad. Think of a baby owl whose mum has recently died in a windmill accident. He was that sad. This audiobook tells the story of how Jimmy turned it around and got happy, through the redemptive power of dick jokes.

Good book, even better if you are already a fan.
Revisado: 01-11-22
I have been a fan of Jimmy Carr's humor for many years. This book gives insight to his method and success along with encouragement and advice. A general complaint about most British comedians is how ubiquitous the progressive politics are. It isn't overbearing, but more of a frequent light dusting. One of the reasons I have enjoyed Carr over the years is that he tends away from those comments, and when he makes them it seems out of humor rather than statement. This book seems to present those as statements rather than humor and is the only complaint I have for the book. Carr is still the best working today on either side of the pond, but I hope he doesn't drift more political. I enjoy him as an escape from politics and I hope that continues. the audiobook version was tops with Jimmy narrating.

Historia
This book is an exploration of the wisdom in the Viking Age poem "Havamal", specifically as it relates to the average person who isn't a scholar of Old Norse, or even an enthusiast of Viking culture. This book is for the layman, the average person who simply wants to improve their life using proven advice. The poem "Havamal" is earthy, cynical, stoic, and grim in its depiction of human life. Havamal means “The Words of the High One”. The poem's speaker is none other than Odin, King of the Gods, who has traveled the many worlds seeking power and suffered greatly in his quest.

The abridgement was notable, but worth it to hear the author narrate. A little preachy at times, and contradictory, but still one of my favorite non-fiction books.

Ian Gordon is the best.
Revisado: 04-19-20
In some sleepy and unnamed village, a child was born under the full moon of Samhain. The product of union between a muse and the dank night itself, Ian was named after his great grandfather, rumored to be the town crier of R'lye. The celestial cyclopian lantern illuminated the birth of such offspring, destined to chant the darkness.
Ian Gordon is incredible, not only in his performance, but also in delivery of what his many fans desire... the dark ease that flows in his every utterance.
I have many good readings of the same material, but his is my favorite of each selection.
My only possible criticism is that I would prefer titles rather than chapter numbers for navigation.
