Andrew Lawler spins a yarn interleaving obscure facts, popular misconceptions, and futuristic possibilities. The role of chickens in the economic liberation of women and American blacks is featured here as an unsung ode to the versatility of this closest of man's barnyard companions. Chickens help us to roll back the mists of time letting us glimpse into the influences which shaped humanity's spread across the globe. To the uninitiated the chickens herein are a wonderful mishmash of the natural worlds contribution to our quality of life. By juxtaposing anthropomorphic traits with characteristics of the truly wild which only the heritage of the Tyrannosaurus rex can bestow. The significance of the chicken to religion, medicine, and science have deep roots in the past, and maybe the key to a humane tomorrow where man lives side by side in dignity with the livestock he relies upon for sustenance.

The collection of stories provide an eclectic view of a reality where superheroes are real and there is science to explain it. Many views of related subject matter, common protagonists, and circumstances varied by time make for an interesting view of the "what could have been" where means are by turns the new downtrodden and the new elite. Very well narrated, the excellent production make what are at times using time shifts and thematic leaps easier to follow.

Robert Sawyer's novel ties anthropology, paleontology and geology with threads of divinity. Beginning to end, this at times whimsical but never irreverent book is well narrated and skillfully produced pacing the listener through multiple layers of thrilling adventure and intrigue. Interestingly juxtaposing science and religion, Sawyer skates on the edges of scientific propriety without offense to the faithful.

A Short Discussion of 1066

An excellent primer on the Battle of Hastings for the budding high school historian. The people, places, and events on both sides of the English Channel are described in vivid language. Mundane and formerly well-known facts are explored in esoteric detail. An enjoyable and quick accounting of the events surrounding the Battle of Hastings.
