Historia
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Yaroslav Trofimov has spent months on end at the heart of the conflict, very often on its front lines. In this authoritative account, he traces the war’s decisive moments—from the battle for Kyiv to more recently the gruelling and bloody arm wrestle involving the Wagner group over Bakhmut—to show how Ukraine and its allies have turned the tide against Russia, one of the world’s great military powers, in a modern-day battle of David and Goliath.

Historia
Awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to investigate the legends of Sasquatch, Yale-trained ecologist Dr. Robert Pyle treks into the unprotected wilderness of the Dark Divide near Mount St. Helens, where he discovers both a giant fossil footprint and recent tracks. On the trail of what he thought was legend, he searches out Indians who tell him of an outcast tribe, the Seeahtiks, who had not fully evolved into humans.

REFRESHING
Revisado: 09-19-22
A rather philosophical and beautifully written treatment of the subject matter. Overall, an utterly enjoyable and eye-opening read. The author has my distinct respect and admiration for his treatment of this topic. Truly inspirational.

Historia
In 2009 Clinton Romesha of Red Platoon and the rest of the Black Knight Troop were preparing to shut down Command Outpost Keating, the most remote and inaccessible in a string of bases built by the US military in Nuristan and Kunar in the hope of preventing Taliban insurgents from moving freely back and forth between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Three years after Keating's construction, the army was finally ready to concede what the men on the ground had known immediately: It was simply too isolated and too dangerous to defend.

STUNNING
Revisado: 01-14-22
Quite simply the best rendition of modern combat I’ve ever read or listened to. A must-read for anyone seeking to understand the intimate realities of combat, the unique challenges faced by so many of our forces in Afghanistan during our period of involvement there, or of the burden borne by the grunt to the decisions of political and military leaders alike.
Semper Fidelis — to the warriors of Red Platoon, those living and those for whom the living owe their lives.
