Historia
Andrea Vernon always thought she would spend her life living in Paris writing thought-provoking historical novels all day and sipping wine on the Seine all night. But the reality is she's drowning in debt, has no prospects, and is forced to move back to Queens, where her parents remind her daily that they are very interested in grandchildren. Then, one morning, she is kidnapped, interviewed, and hired as an administrative assistant by the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection. Superheroes for hire, using their powers for good. What could possibly go wrong?

A Normal Life in an Abnormal World
- De Arthur D. Rich en 08-26-17
Couldn’t bring myself to say anything critical
Revisado: 09-06-20
The story was silly, and campy. My wife asked me if I was listening to an audiobook or a cartoon.
As negative as that sounds, the book was extremely entertaining. Not entirely unlike listening to a Douglas Adams book.
Honestly, as I was writing this I tried to take a star off because the story was silly but I put it back. I tried to take a star off because the performance was cartoonish, But I couldn’t make myself do it because it fit the style of the story.

Historia
The year is 1970. Emma Gable, a blind teenager coming of age in a small industrial town in Western New York, is about as far from the seismic cultural transformations rocking campuses and city streets across America as a person can get. Emma escapes the chaos of her dysfunctional family by dialing up random numbers on the phone in her bedroom, just to see who'll answer.

Refreshingly accurate and entertaining
Revisado: 08-27-20
I did not hold out too much hope for the story, expecting it to be like a bicycle manual written by a fish. It was obviously written by someone with first hand knowledge or mad research skills. As soon as Slim Jim said “Figure out what 2600 means “ I was hooked.
It got the technology right and did some period name dropping like Captain Crunch (John Draper), and demonstrates social engineering accurately.

A bit slow and no DD Warren
Revisado: 04-12-20
I expected this to be book one of the DD Warren but she was very peripheral to the story. I found the plot interesting but a bit plodding.

Historia
Emma Frederick bolts upright in bed, pulse racing. It must be a bad dream. Except it’s not. Crrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkkk. The sound of the loose step sends her body into overdrive, and she rushes for the secret room behind the wall. The screech of old hinges echoes through the house as he enters her bedroom. He starts whistling. Three blind mice. Three blind mice. She slaps a hand over her mouth, stifling her scream. He’s coming for her, but that can’t be. She killed him last month.

Not what I expected.
Revisado: 08-18-19
I completely misjudged what this book was about. I thought it was supernatural horror (not my cup of tea) and instead it was actually my one of my favourite micro genres: Mystery with a damaged but kick-actually female lead.
A have every other audiobook by Jana Deleon and finally tried this series. So glad I did!

Historia
Rook is given the honor to be a visiting professor at his alma mater, and he can't pass up the opportunity to mentor burgeoning writers at his former award-winning college newspaper. Shortly after his arrival on campus, a female reporter for the paper is found dead - naked - in Rook's bed. Dealing with betrayal from any man is not Nikki's style. She and Jameson have had plenty of conflicts during their complicated relationship, but none like this. Is her husband keeping secrets of his own, or can she really trust him?

Unexpected Surprise!
Revisado: 08-10-19
I was surprised that a new Nikki Heat novel was released and so glad I stumbled upon it. I snapped it up, and immediatly stopped the book I was listening to and played this instead. I am pleased that Richard Castle (and Rook and Heat) did not die with the show.
The book is true to form, and a great performance. It is a must-listen for any Castle fan (duh!) but also for any fan of the micro genre (procedural detective mystery romance with a strong female lead).
Although there are some continuity issues with this book (after Heat's mom and she is captain but before a certain character's death?) It's not the first series to have this issue. In Death had a book with a pregnancy, vacation, and promotion out of order - because two books were being written at the same time.
I hope this is a harbinger is more to come!

From #1 New York Times-best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a novel of a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed, and danger that brings them together - and that could tear them apart… As a professional house-sitter and freelance writer, nothing ties Lila Emerson down - not her work, not a home, and definitely not a relationship. She spends her life moving from one job to the next, sometimes crashing at a friend's Manhattan apartment.

I can’t believe I listened to this whole book so fast!
This book was thoroughly engaging, well performed, with characters you care about. I couldn’t stop stealing moments to listen.
I was afraid to start because of the length, coincidentally not dissimilar to the main character in the book.
Of course now I want to read/hear the book written in this book!

I wanted a snack and got a meal
Revisado: 02-06-19
I snatched this as a snack to tide me over on the painful wait for the long delayed audiobooks for the last two Fortune books. Instead of a snack I got a nice tasty meal!
I loved the story, the characters, the voices, so much that I was sneaking time where I could to listen to more of this book such as cooking and installing software updates, eschewing TV shows and even putting off listening to a new book in my all-time favorite series that dropped while I was in the middle of this book.
I am fan of romantic crime dramedies and a sucker for a smart, kick-butt female lead with an attitude and this book scratched that itch. Some people might gripe that it is a bit formulaic but if you love the genre then you enjoy that. You have your crime and your meet-cute... strap in and enjoy the ride.

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

Not what I was expecting
Revisado: 01-12-19
I thought this would be a crime novel but it turned out to be a documentary. I was impressed.
It was very well done, and engaging. Research seem thorough and not sensationalized. In fact, it was refreshing when it even pointed out that a the story was not going in a particular direction, to deliberately quell any such speculation.

Nice finish to the mini trilogy
Revisado: 09-25-18
This book is the finale to a trilogy of novellas, but it is also all three knit together into a complete book. At first I was annoyed at paying for two stories I had already paid for, but it was worth it to have the complete saga from beginning to end.
I like the story from the very beginning, I have been following it since the initial release of the first story. This was a satisfying conclusion, filled in the blanks, and a great performance.

Maybe too good
Revisado: 08-20-18
It’s quite something when the worst thing that you can say about a story is that is too good.
The characters are engaging and the story is captivating. The performance keeps you in the story and makes you care about the characters.
I could not stop stealing moments to listen to this book.
