Historia
It's been 10 years since humanity's war with the monstrous Kaiju ended and the Breach at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean was sealed. The Pan Pacific Defense Corps remains vigilant in anticipation of the Kaiju's return, expanding and advancing their fleet of massive mechs known as Jaegers and accepting the best and the brightest candidates into the Jaeger Academy Training Program. Then tragedy strikes as a deadly act of sabotage casts suspicion on the newest cadets.

So much more than just Jaegers punching Kaiju
Revisado: 04-10-21
I was shocked in the best way from the emotional weight of this story. The characters are fully developed and relatable. There is truly impactful scenes filled with heat.
The mystery probably could have been a little more thought out, but is a small stumble in an otherwise great book.
Also the narrator is one of the best I've listened to. And I was impressed with his female characters voices. Other male narrators have a tendency to make female characters sound flirty all the time. But Kafer realizes his limits and works superbly within them.

Tales of Star Wars
Revisado: 01-16-21
This collection of short stories offers a unique look at the fables told to children and legends shared in dark corners of taverns in the Star Wars universe. The book is well written with the exception of some limited vocabulary that became a little repetitive.
The subtle hints and easter eggs of famous characters, which I won't spoil, add a fun dose of mysticism to those characters.
But what really makes this a hidden gem is the narrator, James Monroe Iglehart. His performance will transport you too a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away lounging in a shadowy Coruscant bar, sitting around a campfire on Tatooine, or passing the time on a hauling voyage. If you have a long drive coming up this will help pass the time in a fun and relaxing way.

A Clunky yet Fun Adventure
Revisado: 01-05-21
While there are clunky moments in this book it mostly came together in well rounded and unique story in this book. I was immediately drawn by the plot; corporate espionage is something that I didn't think I needed and much less thought about in Star Wars but now I want more! Genuine mystery is crafted while characters are fully realized and packed with personality.
A lot of this is owed to Marc Thompson. The energy and performance Marc puts in is why was able to enjoy this book. I'll elaborate more on this in a moment. His character portrayals are spot on (with one exception) and I was impressed by his many voices and the quirks he gives to each character. I especially liked his acting of Skelly, it's over the top in the best way! But I did say there was an exception: the performance of Hera made me feel detached from her as a character. The way he spoke when voicing her made her sound a bit too flirty a bit too much. I am a huge fan of Rebels and this performance made her feel like a totally different character at times.
Now, back to what I referred to earlier about Thompson's narration making this book enjoyable for me; I would have not been able to finish this book if I had chosen to read it. I've only read one other book by the author, John Jackson Miller, that being Star Wars Kenobi. (Which I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.) In Kenobi I felt pulled into the world through the author's description and unique voice.
Here however, there is a lot of telling and not a whole of showing. And unfortunately that seems to be the case with most Star Wars novels. I was just expecting more after reading Kenobi and was hoping to see what he would do with Kanan Jarus, my favorite Jedi.
So in short this is a surprising, unique adventure with memorable characters and the narrator gives it what it needs to make up for the writing's shortcomings.

The narrator is what really sold me and kept me going. If it weren't for that and the anticipation of what geek reference was coming next I think I might have given up on it.

Historia
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.
