Historia
When Brendan Leonard moved to the West at age 23, he was a mess. He had a tenuous grip on sobriety, only six months after his last drink had landed him in yet another jail cell. It was the final mistake in a long list that included multiple arrests, wrecked cars, broken bones, fistfights, and ruined relationships. In Montana, he took his first steps into the Rocky Mountains, unwittingly beginning a decade-long obsession with climbing and a journey that would take him all over the West and Europe.

In exchange for help escaping her long and wrongful imprisonment, embittered magical healer Blackthorn has vowed to set aside her bid for vengeance against the man who destroyed all that she once held dear. Followed by a former prison mate, a silent hulk of a man named Grim, she travels north to Dalriada. There she'll live on the fringe of a mysterious forest, duty bound for seven years to assist anyone who asks for her help. Oran, crown prince of Dalriada, has waited anxiously for the arrival of his future bride, Lady Flidais.

Narration detracts from good story
Revisado: 08-11-15
I thoroughly enjoyed Juliet Marillier's Sevenwaters series. When I saw that she had written the first of a new series, I was looking forward to what I hoped would be another fun audio book experience. Although I did complete the story and liked it, it was an extremely disappointing performance. Why choose actors with a Midwestern American accent to read a story taking place in "old Erin" with Kings, Queens, Princes and magic?
The narrator for Blackthorn- the main character- was just plain dull, bordering on monotone at times. Grim's voice could have been from an old John Wayne western. The prince and his entourage sounded like they were in a high school play. It was distracting.
The series has great promise. I do like the story concept and the characters of Blackthorn and Grim. With better narration - including Irish accents- it could become another popular series.
