The story was very engaging, and I enjoyed Alicia, Norah, and Jessica. The “twist” (though, was it? Miss Fairchild was clearly not being truthful with the doctor) removed the satisfaction of the villain getting her comeuppance, which detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book. Also, did officials not do a DNA test on the body? That would have established her true parentage. That being said, this one was still better than most of the books out there, and the narration was fairly good.

The main villain was very obvious, though the convoluted plot still has me scratching my head. I’ve been with Lottie through 14 books, and she is once again testing my patience. She is incredibly mean to Boyd, who apparently can’t or won’t stand up to her because she’s his boss. She’s coddling her adult children in a house that is falling down around her. Most horrifying is that Rose needs to go to a nursing facility but Lottie is too busy? selfish? in denial? to pull the trigger. Instead, she’s depending on another senior citizen and her children (though Katie doesn’t work to support her child, so there’s that) to care for a woman who needs 24/7 care. She expects witnesses to risk their livelihoods to answer her questions - with no legal justification- which I find abhorrent. She’s basically a bully at this point. Once again her actions left Boyd injured. I like Kirby, Amy, and Sean at this point. I like Boyd, but he needs to stop letting Lottie walk all over him. It’s sad. Unfortunately, these books are still better than 95 percent of the ones in this genre, so I will continue with the series.

I debated whether or not to pick up this one, even after having read every other novel by Moriarty. The subject matter could be misconstrued as morbid, but it’s truly not. She injects such humor into her stories, and it is beautiful. The lives of the passengers were very interesting, and I couldn’t wait for Cherry’s story to be told. Stellar narration by both readers. This will be a definite re-read.

I had read “The Kind Worth Killing”, which was excellent. This one wasn’t as good, and the narration was annoying. Has Kathleen Early always sounded so robotic and I just never noticed? I had to speed up her narration and then reduce it back to the default for the other ones. Josie, Martha, and Ethan’s narrators were good. The Henry narrator was awful - almost as bad as Ted’s was in the first book. The plot here was okay, and I really do like Lily - and stories of revenge when the bad guy(s) get theirs in the end. I might have enjoyed it more with different readers.

First, I must address the rather unfair review by Andrea. It would appear that she hadn’t read any of the other books in the series prior to the concluding novel - and, her assessment of Jane McDowell’s narration is wrong, to be blunt. The cadence is fine and, if she had listened to the other books first, she wouldn’t have an issue with the style. McDowell has narrated the series beautifully, and has brought these amazing characters to vivid life in her readings. That out of the way, I very much enjoyed this chapter, as I have all the others. The main characters are wonderful, but the supporting players are written so well that I feel like I know them personally. I loved the twist in this one, bringing Ruth full circle, as it is. I’m going to miss these people so much. I will definitely be starting over with the series in the next few weeks. I was quite satisfied with THE conclusion, too - and I do not mean whodunnit! Murder, romance, pets, mysticism - it has it all. I will miss you, Ruth and Company. ❤️

I really enjoy this series, but, 13 books in I do have a few annoyances: 1. Overused phrases like “her sadness threatened to consume her”. Cue eye roll. 2. Lottie’s selfishness/hypocrisy. a. Her mother clearly needs full-time health care, and Lottie depends on her children, who are certainly not equipped to deal with an elderly woman with dementia, to pause their lives to care for the woman. b. If anyone else on her team other than Boyd had just left in the middle of an investigation and repeatedly ignored her calls, even in a family emergency, she would have had a holy fit. c. Her treatment of witnesses/suspects when she still has no idea whodunnit. It’s the priest. It’s the mom. It’s the other mom. It’s a third mom. It’s the funeral director. It’s the kid. It’s the social worker. It’s the journalist. It’s Colonel Mustard with an ax in the conservatory. She has no idea and totally alienates them all - and then gets self-righteous when no one wants to cooperate. Annoying. With all that being said, the book was good. The subject matter - child abuse and murder - is sad and dark, but it kept me interested throughout. Moran is a great narrator, as always.

I was troubled when I read, months ago, that the narrator for “Holly” would not be Will Patton, who had voiced her character so beautifully in the past. I needn’t have worried. Justine Lupe did a fabulous job! This story is often extremely claustrophobic and full of gore, but why would I expect anything else? The resolution is perfect. Holly is a gem, and I feel like I know her, Jerome, and Barbara - and I actually like them. I was glad to see Izzy’s character morph from the mean girl that she was previously to an open-minded, helpful resource. To those offended by the opinions of SK in reference to COVID, Trump, and that madness in this book: too bad for you. First, he’s not shy about his politics, so the truths in this book should surprise no one - even you. Also, no one forced you to purchase this book, but I, for one, AM forced to live amongst people just like the ignorant characters that periodically pop up in this story, and that IS scarier than any work of horror fiction - even by the master: Stephen King. I hope there are more Holly-featured works in the works!

I liked this book, which basically deals with toxic friendships and long-term grudges. I did find parts frustrating - because I hope that, in the same situations as the main character, I would be more assertive and less likely to take the crap that was heaped on the protagonist by a new member of her friendship circle. I had most of it figured out somehow, and I was happy that nothing happened to the dog! The one thing that bothered me was (spoiler alert) the revelation of the pregnancy. I was really hoping the author wouldn't go there, because, as an infertile woman myself, I know it just wasn't realistic due to her medical issues. The narration was quite good. Worth the credit!

With this author and narrators, it's nearly impossible to go wrong. This story is split into two - half to each twin. Former child stars, one is a recovering addict and one, seemingly the "good" twin, joins a cult. The story was very good, but, to me, SO FRUSTRATING because I just don't get how intelligent people fall prey to these crazy cults. Sadly, it happens all the time, and this is a realistic example of how and why. Julia Whelan is a superb narrator, and Kate Rudd is great, too.

I didn't have much to go on when I added this to my cart - except that I knew the narration would be great. It was, and so was this ghost story about a pregnant widow, a murder, and a couple of ghosts who need help getting closure. No big surprises, but it really didn't need any. The only thing: the middle kind of felt like the end, and I was shocked to see that there was still over three hours left to go. That being said, the continuation of the story was enjoyable, and I wonder if this might turn into a series. Definitely worth the credit!
