Historia
Eva never really wanted to be a mother - and certainly not the mother of a boy who ends up murdering seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker, and a much-adored teacher who tried to befriend him, all two days before his 16th birthday. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood, and Kevin’s horrific rampage, in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her estranged husband, Franklin.

Insanely dark
Revisado: 05-01-24
Dark, gutting and realistic this book follows the movie fairly closely but with extra gutwrenching detail. Realistic enough that you can empathize with the main character as she struggles to come to terms with what her child becomes. This book will make you think and feel uncomfortable showing us the worst possible evil that we should all fear.

A sad a realistic view of raising a troubled child.
Revisado: 04-03-24
In spite of the negative reviews posted of this book, I thought it was really well done. It takes a hard look at the fact that some people are just “bad”. It does leave you to come to your own conclusions about the fates of certain characters and relationships but that didn’t not lead me to feel it was a bad ending. It is worth reading.

Historia
On March 26, 2018, rescue workers discovered a crumpled SUV and the bodies of two women and several children at the bottom of a cliff beside the Pacific Coast Highway. Investigators soon concluded that the crash was a murder-suicide, but there was more to the story: Jennifer and Sarah Hart, it turned out, were a white married couple who had adopted the six Black children from two different Texas families in 2006 and 2008. Behind the family's loving facade, however, was a pattern of abuse and neglect that went ignored.

Biased
Revisado: 03-11-24
This book started out promising but it failed to deliver. Leaning strikingly to the left, this is not an unbiased and informative view of the foster care system but one with a political agenda. There is also an unfair portrayal of CPS workers portraying them as appendages of a system that does not care for the welfare of children and their birth families removing all accountability from birth parents. I would not recommend this book if you want an unbiased account.

Historia
Barbara Butcher was early in her recovery from alcoholism when she found an unexpected lifeline: a job at the Medical Examiner’s Office in New York City. The second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan, she was the first to last more than three months. The work was gritty, demanding, morbid, and sometimes dangerous—and she loved it. In What the Dead Know, she writes with the kind of New York attitude and bravado you might expect from decades in the field, investigating more than 5,500 death scenes, 680 of which were homicides.

Gut wrenching, gritty and real
Revisado: 03-07-24
This book was incredible. Not only was it incredibly interesting and informative but it didn’t hold back on the gory details of the author’s work or how it affected her. Her story telling puts you there at the scene with her sharing her thoughts and feeling her strong emotions. Among America’s first responders and hero’s, there is so much to be learned from Barbara. Her strength through struggles, humility and transparency make her inspiring. I highly recommend this book for those with a forensic curiosity for what goes on behind the scenes and a strong stomach.

Historia
So young, so sweet. She appeared out of nowhere, in the middle of traffic, on a busy day. A teenager with no past, no family - no memories. So blond and beautiful. Carol and Paul were drawn to her - she was the child they’d never had. A dream come true. And then Carol’s nightmares began - the ghastly sounds in the night…the bloody face in the mirror…the razor-sharp ax.

Building suspense
Revisado: 01-05-24
I was disappointed with this book. The concept behind the terror was weak and the ending left far too many questions and little closure. Being a long time and loyal fan of this author, this one was very uncharacteristically bad.

Interesting concept
Revisado: 10-05-23
The POV of different characters is definitely helpful, although I felt myself wanting the complete story of one character before moving on to the next as each character’s back story is left on a cliffhanger. By the end of the book, however, each character’s story and quirkiness are explained, except for one. Worth the read and waiting to see who gets the last word in the end.

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

Okay
Revisado: 06-13-23
Sometimes I feel like the love stories take precedent over the horror aspect. I would like to see more horror. I can’t pinpoint it but there is something that does not quite tie the whole story together in a satisfactory way. Exploration of the darkness of human kind and supernatural are more my thing. If I want the unrealistic lovey dovey, love birds always survive and love conquers all, I will watch a Disney movie or listen to Taylor Swift.
