Mal and Elliot are great together on the ice, and off the ice they become more than the bickering enemies they begin the story as. This is a sweet, steamy, turbulent---as only new adult lives can be---romance. The premise of Elliot needing tutoring from Mal to pass his class and stay on the team is believable and the way that allows them to learn about each other, to fall in love, and to face Elliot's antagonist is engaging. Darcy Starks enunciated well, but sometimes he sounded just a little too formal, too stiff, and it took me out of the story,

A really great story, well executed, with lots of understandable misunderstandings, miscommunication, true villains, heart wrenching treachery, and sweet love. I liked the difference in the narration … a single narrator with the clever addition of a second voice in a hybrid version that was important for character AND plot. Well done!

Brody and Dean meet as roommates when Brody's best mate and former roommate ditches him without notice but finds a substitute to take the extra room. Brody is on track to be recruited into the NHL and Dean plans to make it into the NFL if he can keep the scouts interested in him. Neither is looking for nor expecting the feelings that blossom and grow into love between them and that realization, particularly as neither has identified as gay or bi before, confuses and scares them. Add in the concerns about their futures and we have a riveting story of growing into adulthood and finding a way to reconcile all the parts of their more complicated lives. Brody comes from wealth and has choices but fears making the 'wrong' one. In contrast, Dean has only one plan because of his less-than-stellar upbringing and has no idea what he'll do if that plan fails. The story is spicy as they explore their newfound sexual needs as only two virile young men can. The secondary characters, particularly their best friends, are both insightful and entertaining. Darcy Starks's narration is fine.

Kenyon Ellis, running back for the Miami Piranhas NFL team, doesn't expect to fall for anyone, least of a journalist. But when a one-night-stand with hard-hitting sports writer Julian Anderson turns into more after an unexpected second meeting, everything both men think they want becomes blurred by inexplicable emotions, liberally seasoned with drama. Julian, as Kenyon in the beginning, is mistrustful and seems to suffer from foot-in-mouth disease when it comes to the footballer. For his part, Kenyon must weigh his ignorance about all things commitment--a weakness he shares with Julian--against the truth his heart is telling him, and ultimately against his future goals. There are the usual discoveries, both by themselves and others, the anxiety around being caught, and the inevitable misunderstandings leading to arguments and a breakup ... all very standard. Overall, I found Kenyon more "likable" than Julian, and the end of the story was a bit of a tearjerker.

I found Mr.Stark's performance less engaging this time around than in the story before. Sometimes it was hard to know who was speaking because the voices were not as clearly defined. Additionally, he was very breathy in this story for some unknown reason. Thankfully, these were minimally distracting.

Asa and Scott, separated for years by a decision guaranteed to cause them both pain, are reunited and forced to resolve the hurt and anger that lies between them. It's a slow-burn buildup filled with conflicted emotions, a second chance for happiness between two older guys who never lost the love they had for each other, despite Asa's justifiable anger with Scott over that ill-considered decision. I enjoyed this for a lot of reasons, from the fact that the MCs are older adults, to the relationships not just between them but between Asa and Beau and between Asa and the Piranhas. I enjoyed the realistic conflicts, the heartfelt emotions, the lovemaking, and the narration. Darcy Stark did a wonderful job of differentiating each character and providing his own emotional depth for each one.

There was so much potential for growth in this story, but it wasn't even an hour-long performance! That's hardly enough time to help us know John and Philip, and definitely not enough time to see them together as a couple. it's like a snippet of a longer story, and for that, I was disappointed, especially because I chose this story since it presents a black man as one of the main characters in a Regency romance. Michael Ferraioulo's British accent is very believable.

Taylor Hollis and Jamie Walsh must first overcome their intense but misguided dislike of each other before they can forge a friendship that leads to love. And once that happens, then all the complications of Jaime's coming out -- including his issues with his ex-best friend and his ex-wife -- and Taylor's own family problems, all add to the pressures being brought to bear on their relationship. They make it through them, of course, even if in the end what's broken between Jamie and his former best friend can never be repaired. At least the love he builds with Taylor helps bridge the gap and begin the healing between their fathers.

The uninspiring narration did nothing for this age gap, enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romance. The narrator made little to no effort to vary his voicing of the MCs, so, of course, there was little to distinguish Jamie's daughter from Taylor's mother, for example, aside from the things each says. The narrator's performance did nothing to enhance my appreciation of the story. I may as well have read it myself.

...not so great performance. Thankfully, both the suspense and the romance could stand on their own without any assistance from the narrator, who suffered from a terminal case of reading-not performing, and sometimes missing the cues even then. Both Special Agent Levi Bishop and Special Agent Emmitt Marshall are heart-wounded, reeling from losses that only their work seems able to make bearable. The way they meet and end up married seems a bit thin, plot-wise, but that would be the only other weakness that I can find in this story. I'm not a fan of the way it ends, either, (no spoilers!) but I suppose an HFN is better than nothing. I can't wait for the second installment.

Dr. Jay Sorrentino's brave but painful decision to call off his wedding ten days before the event doesn't endear him to most people, especially not his now ex-fiancee. His reason, which he refuses to share with any of his circle until almost the end, becomes also the reason he must eventually decide to come out of the closet since he intends to win back the love of his life. And that man, Dr. Lucien Avery, must overcome his own demons of loss in order to fully embrace the man with whom he makes a rather ill-advised hookup the first time they meet. Serendipity, even if when the unknown young man who pleasures him so well turns out to also be the young doctor he's charged with mentoring. I enjoyed the premise and the differences between them as well as the real problems they must figure out a way to solve which made me care about them and root for their relationship to bloom and grow. The narrator did a fairly good job, especially in Lucien's upper-class tones.
