I was pleased to see this had just been realeased. Rachel Lynch does a great job creating a story that keeps you on your toes all the way to the end and it was extremely well read by Clare Kissane.

Historia
After getting canned from the Seattle PD, brilliant, wisecracking Thomas Prescott follows his sister Lacy to Philadelphia, where she swims on the Drexel University team. While Thomas’s slapstick antics mask a keen analytic mind, it’s his nose for trouble that leads him again and again into dicey situations. The ex–homicide detective is not long in Philly before getting caught up in two high-powered criminal cases. Thomas stumbles into a crime scene amid the Occupy Philadelphia protests. Activist Brooke Wexley has been strangled within sight of city hall.

A complete crime fiction box set! Homicide detective Thomas Prescott may be retired—but a serial killer, a high-profile murder, an ill-fated cruise, and a chilling small-town crime add more than enough excitement to his hard-earned rest. This collection includes the first four books: Unforeseen, Gray Matter, The Afrikaans, and Show Me.

I enjoyed all the books and there were times when I laughed aloud. I felt like some of circumstances were over the top in believability but it is fiction and only served in making them entertaining. Well read and performed.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Had potential..
Revisado: 11-04-23
I tried repeatedly to get through this because of the reviews and the hype around the series but finally put it aside unfinished. Disappointed that so much repeated effort was exerted in bashing the existence of God. The continual revisiting of this point didn’t add anything to the story but served only to make me think less of the author and characters.
Intellectually smart but spiritually dead.

Outstanding Story
Revisado: 08-20-23
Harsher than the movie but very enjoyable. The performance by Tom Stechschulte is first rate, full of passion and intensity. I read this book 50 years ago but throughly enjoyed revisiting and realized there were parts that I had forgotten . It’s hard to imagine the harsh frontier where this type of occurrence took place. The uniqueness of this story is the relentless pursuit. I believe the reality of most captive children left most families helpless to do anything but grieve as few if any homesteaders would have had the means or abilities to continue a long term search.

Started listening as I began my early morning walk and finished when I returned home because I was too caught up in the story. After finishing I’ve concluded the film to be an excellent adaptation but there are some differences. The goodness of Joe, Marion and Shane always shine through and at times made my eyes moist. Great story!

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Revisado: 07-09-23
I found this book offered by Audible as a free listen. I enjoy books while taking long daily walks and this occupied my mind through the miles as I trudged along. I thought this was entertaining without unnecessary profanity or descriptive violence. The characters are great and DC had me chuckling several times. Excellent performance from Gildart Jackson whose timing and inflection matched the story very well,

Stumbled across….
Revisado: 05-28-23
I found this on Audible while looking at included books, so I gave it a try. Prior to this I was unaware of the author or series.
Even though there is reference to events that happened previously, the book works well as a stand alone. I appreciate the absence of dialogue laced with profanity that seems to prevail these days and will be looking at the possibility to go back to the start of the series.

I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to each of these books as they are released. The primary characters have become like old friends and are excellent companions for my daily walks. I’ve had to discipline myself to stop the recordings when my walk ends even though I really want to continue listening.
Excellent writing and character development by Karen Baugh Menuhin and a great reading by Sam Dewhurst-Phillips.
