The Book is Rare: But What Makes It So...
Revisado: 03-20-19
The book, or more correctly the Short Story, is a bit of a mystery in the Rare Books heavily protected section found only underground in the meticulously kept collection of rare and precious books left by a prominent King for use by the people privileged to use the collection or parts thereof.
The majority of the tale entails the identification of a “missing” book, the search for said book, including identification of it by the chosen group given the mission to locate it, and the events leading to the finding, “capture”, and discussion of what would be best measures in keeping the book so it was safe and the rest of the library safe from it! Rare and cunning indeed!

Historia
This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

Fully Crafted Saga from Ireland to US Wilderness
Revisado: 08-20-18
This book has everything and more. Characters are detailed so one anticipates their emotions. Reader sees incredible scenery and each place is brought to life with smells and sounds of the environment richly painted by author. Action is believable and one is brought through a myriad of emotions - excitement, discovery, terror, loss, new promises made and kept, fighting and pain, tastes and smells and feeling of environment and scenes as diverse as a crowd at a hanging and working new land with hope and loss. Freedom is sought for in many ways by different characters, and is found with exhilaration after trial after trial. Too good to stop!

A Unique Perspective on Living Life Well
Revisado: 03-24-18
This book by Jared Sawstsky is narrated by the author. He is a member of a family that carries the gene for Huntington’s Disease, in which members may learn as they age that they have inherited the gradually debilitating disease.
Jared is the perfect narrator, for his life has included many different opportunities to look at life in a variety of living situations. He has also gone to the trouble of either seeking out people he most admires, or if unable to meet them, he has gone to great lengths to learn about what these people thought, how they lived, and what they taught or left behind as their philosophies.
Mr Sawatsky speaks clearly and slowly, giving the listener along the way many of Mr Sawatsky’s own personal beliefs in how to live a happier life, no matter what one finds as they move along their journey through life. I particularly like the idea that one can choose to be happy, no matter what their life circumstances may be.

Historia
As the heart-wrenching personal stories in this book reveal, family members do not cause their loved one's addiction. Nor can they control or cure addiction. What family members can do is find support, set boundaries, detach with love, and eventually discover how to enjoy life whether their loved one finds recovery or not. Addict in the Family is a book about sorrow, deception, and pain. More importantly, it is a book of comfort, hope, and understanding for anyone struggling with a loved one's addiction.

Addict in the Family
Revisado: 11-08-17
I never thought we would have an addict in the family - let alone which member of the family it would be! I was stunned when I learned, as well as how it had been hidden for so long.
No family is immune to this dreaded illness, but in time and working on communication, that person can once again be an active and loved family member. Forgiveness and living in the present instead of the past are key elements.
I found this book to be a helpful reminder of just how far we have come, although it is always a work in progress. One must look deep inside oneself, not focusing on the addict, to come out of the past with a positive look on the future.

Local Hero by Nora Roberts
Revisado: 08-01-17
Thankfully, the title, which I think is atypically NOT representative of this book, I managed to pretty much ignore due to the Joy I share with so many readers of Nora Roberts' books.
I have been through several years of health issues and family activities, but today started with such a number of obtrusive phone calls that I disabled phones and Internet after letting my family know,
Then YES, this book I have saved for a quiet day. And the wait was more than worth it! The love of a young mom sacrificing for her only son. Always great relationships, adding in decisions about the hope of tomorrow for these genuine twosome or ? threesome ? as Nora

Since 2014, international monetary agencies have been issuing warnings to a small group of finance ministers, banks, and private equity funds: The US government's cowardly choices not to prosecute J.P. Morgan and its ilk and to bloat the economy with a $4 trillion injection of easy credit are driving us headlong toward a cliff. As Rickards shows in this frightening, meticulously researched book, governments around the world have no compunction about conspiring against their citizens.

Insightful compilation of the path the US has, with a consortium of Elites driving the nation to ruin
Revisado: 01-01-17
Every living, thinking American should read this tremendous book. Jim Rickards has a widely diverse background that takes him from law to Wall Street to Advisor and educator of nations, decision makers, and entities such as the CIA and FBI. His knowledge of history adds greatly to his ability to see the strengths and weaknesses of the US.
The future he projects is frightening, yet totally rational in using his plethora of experiences, the relationships he has worldwide, and the course of other great civilizations and their demise.
The unseen greed of the elites of the US and the incompetency of the Federal Reserve have placed the United States in a dangerously precarious position that may not be reversible.
Jim Rickards is the narrator of his own book. He builds the base for his projections on known facts. His experiences and gifted intellect brings the listener through verifiable evidence that is most likely unattainable in any other way.
This is an amazingly thoughtful, brilliant, and extremely well presented illumination from a man who cares about his country and fellow citizens enough to stick his neck out and warn the reader/listener of probable future and suggestions for self-preservation.

“As a man thinks in his heart so is he.”Many people who are familiar with Proverbs 23:7 (above) conclude that what they think about they will become. With that in mind they lead with their brains and assume their spiritual identity will follow. They reason that they can control, even create, their destiny with their thinking, failing to realize that their minds are part of their fallenness which must be continually renewed - realigned with God’s purpose.

I Once Was Lost But Now I'm Found
Revisado: 08-31-16
This exuberant presentation of one man's life without, then with Christ is spirited and enlightening. The author was brought up in much the way Jesus was, although certainly in a later age.
He tasted, then became a voracious reader of the Bible and the life and teachings, as well as living with Christ in him and him in Christ.
The enthusiastic presentation brings one from a struggler to a devout follower of Jesus and His teachings.
Throughout the presentation scripture is presented in an annotated manner, so the reader/listener may find the source and more of the exposition of each quotation.
I found the narrator enthused in his presentation, so appropriate for the change and growth of the life one could expect if the reader, too, became first familiar, then a devout believer in the teachings of Christ while applying them in his life and sharing them with others.

Historia
Roger Lowenstein, the bestselling author of Buffett, captures Long-Term's roller-coaster ride in gripping detail. Drawing on confidential internal memos and interviews with dozens of key players, Lowenstein crafts a story that reads like a first-rate thriller from beginning to end. He explains not just how the fund made and lost its money, but what it was about the personalities of Long-Term's partners, the arrogance of their mathematical certainties, and the late-nineties culture of Wall Street that made it all possible.

No Tree is too Big to Gall
Revisado: 05-25-16
This is an in-depth review of the events that took place and nearly brought down the global financial world. Can it happen again, with more severe ramifications? The answer from the book is yes
The need for those working in the financial markets to ALWAYS weigh. the risks being taken, is critical, whether seemingly large or small. LTCS was a "model" for arbitrage. The men who rode it to glory could not foresee the potential for problems arising until it was much too late. And they were not alone among financial entities in this position. The euphoria of money piling in "proving" their model to be right far overshadowed any doubts that this was a strong and capable way to grow money, with little risk. The clause immediately preceding this sentence was, indeed, proven to be incorrect. The risks were very great and ultimately brought those who had previously benefited close to the brink of ruin, in reputation, careers, and their personal solvency.
Excellent read!

Want to really know how to make honest money in the market? Open this book, read, and think...
Revisado: 05-05-16
After too many years of listening to and reading the works and instructions of those who are actually clueless, I was fortunate to come into contact with work by Michael Covel, a Master of Trend Following. And thanks to this, I believe my life is changing.
Trend following has no pretenses; there is no implication that what WILL happen in the markets can be predicted by anyone, now or in the future.
You can learn every "system" and method out there. But only Trend Following has an actual scientific basis, and this has been proven by many over decades of time.
If you can open your mind and set aside, at least for a time, all that you have learned or been taught about trading and investing, you have an opportunity to find brilliance here.
This presentation is open and straight forward. It has integrity and is done plainly enough that a person of any real intelligence can, if they so choose, be illuminated by it.
My only regret is that I was not exposed to this knowledge much earlier in my life.
But there is still today and tomorrow...
