Historia
When Marie Colvin was killed by an IED in Homs, Syria, in 2012, at age 56, the world lost one of its most fearless, accomplished, and iconoclastic war correspondents, an eye-patch wearing, party-throwing, and risk-taking female combat reporter who covered the most significant and destructive global calamities of her lifetime. In Extremis: The Life and Death of War Reporter Marie Colvin, written by Colvin’s friend and prizewinning fellow reporter Lindsey Hilsum, is a thrilling and powerful investigation into Colvin’s epic life and tragic death.

A flawed, and brilliant reporter… made me appreciate how brave these war correspondents are. I also found it interesting hearing about her complex life.

A captivating story
Revisado: 12-19-15
I was drawn to choose this title, as I have some experience working on a rez. There were many parts of the story that resonated with me. The story really engaged me and the characters were so real. I had read it was semi-autobiographical and would lows to know which parts were true.

Historia
When Thomas Jefferson became president in 1801, America faced a crisis. The new nation was deeply in debt and needed its economy to grow quickly, but its merchant ships were under attack. Pirates from North Africa's Barbary coast routinely captured American sailors and held them as slaves, demanding ransom and tribute payments far beyond what the new country could afford.

Good story, but middling narration
Revisado: 11-27-15
The historical events were quite interesting. The narration did not contribute to a good experience . Would have preferred another narrator who had more nuance.

Historia
Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland.

A charmer
Revisado: 10-23-15
This was a charming story, made even better by a fantastic narrator. I enjoyed the whimsy but not sappy story.

Historia
Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why the parade of public figures unable to own up when they screw up? Why the endless marital quarrels over who is right? Why can we see hypocrisy in others but not in ourselves? Are we all liars? Or do we really believe the stories we tell? Backed by years of research and delivered in lively, energetic prose, Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) offers a fascinating explanation of self-deception.

A thoughtful analysis
Revisado: 06-22-15
Many interesting examples from different spheres contributed to a fascinating discussion. I find myself tuned in to examples every day now that I'm more aware of how cognitive dissonance appears.
