Historia
While doing fieldwork on the remote Indonesian island of Flores, anthropologist Gregory Forth came across people talking about half-apelike, half-humanlike creatures that once lived in a cave on the slopes of a nearby volcano. Over the years he continued to record what locals had to say about these mystery hominoids while searching for ways to explain them as imaginary symbols of the wild or other cultural representations. We follow Forth on the trail of this mystery hominoid, and the space they occupy in islanders' culture as both natural creatures and as supernatural beings.

Excellent speaker. The author brought up and described how anthropologists investigate things in an interesting and humorous way.

Historia
All contact is lost with the first human colony on Mars during a long and destructive sandstorm. Satellite imagery of the aftermath shows extensive damage to the facility. The 54 colonists who called it home are presumed dead. Three years later, a new mission sets down on the surface to investigate what remains of the derelict site. But it's not long before they realize the colony is not as lifeless as everyone thought. Someone is still alive - hiding out somewhere. Yet, before they can find the elusive colonist, a strange illness starts to affect the crew.

Poor narrator. Everyone has a Russian accent, even the Italian guy.

Weak on science. Non credible crew interactions. All the hostility, sarcasm and intimidation would get any group nowhere much less astronauts going to Mars. Sort of phony drama that’s unnecessary.

Oddly written
Revisado: 02-24-23
First of all, having a narrator with a strong Australian accent threw off all references to the author being English, with a few "Crikeys" added by him really wrecking it.
The book starts with small stories of several (American) individuals who are hiking companions, as an introduction. All the little stories are in first person, with this awful Australian accent making it rather confusing who was the main character. I re-listened to the first chapter again and it made sense, but weird story structure. Overall it was a good story about the AT but terrible narrator.

Historia
This novel of awesome beauty and power is a moving saga about people, relationships, and the boundaries of love. Through Jean M. Auel’s magnificent storytelling we are taken back to the dawn of modern humans, and with a girl named Ayla we are swept up in the harsh and beautiful Ice Age world they shared with the ones who called themselves the Clan of the Cave Bear.

Unpleasant speaker's voice
Revisado: 06-12-21
I've read all the Jean Auel books so I knew the stories. The woman's voice narrating is whiny and irritating. Her portrayal of men's voices is even worse. From listening to many audiobooks I find men are able to do a soft, slightly higher pitched voice for a woman (in the story) but women narrators trying to speak low and gruff to be the "man" sound awful.
