Historia
The acclaimed author of American Dirt reveals the devastating effects of a shocking tragedy in this landmark true-crime work - the first ever to look intimately at the experiences of both the victims and their families. A Rip in Heaven is Jeanine Cummins’ story of a night in April, 1991, when her two cousins Julie and Robin Kerry, and her brother, Tom, were assaulted on the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, which spans the Mississippi River just outside of St. Louis.

Wow

I thought I was getting a good true crime book, came away with a lot more to think about than I’d expected. There are some truly gut wrenching scenes. I feel so bad for this family, and since the author was there, she tells it well. The only thing is I had to speed up the narration, otherwise it was too slow.

Historia
In April 1944, Rudolf Vrba became one of the very first Jews to escape from Auschwitz and make his way to freedom—among only a tiny handful who ever pulled off that near-impossible feat. He did it to reveal the truth of the death camp to the world—and to warn the last Jews of Europe what fate awaited them. Against all odds, Vrba and his fellow escapee, Fred Wetzler, climbed mountains, crossed rivers, and narrowly missed German bullets until they had smuggled out the first full account of Auschwitz the world had ever seen.

An exceptional and unique Holocaust survival story, I’ve never heard one like this. The writing is very well researched and beautiful. The author delivers perfect narration. It is extremely graphic. Go in prepared for unflinching horrific details. This was the reality.
