Historia
Ecstasy, or extasis, is the Greek term for trance, and is linked with a pleasurable, God-given state of out-of-body experience recorded throughout the New Testament and the church age. Starting with the apostles ecstatic experiences on Pentecost, the Book of Acts further records trances in the lives of Peter and Paul. From the early church to the Christian mystics of the Middle Ages and the famous revivalists of centuries present, God s movements on the Earth have always been marked by these supernatural experiences.

Please. please get another narrator
Revisado: 07-16-23
I so wanted to have the audible version of this book. The content is impactful and is highly recommended by my pastor as well. However, the narrator ruined the experience and I almost gave up as he blandly read the Preface, but by the first chapter he lost me. A very poor choice performer with a poor quality raspy voice and dry, bland narration. Could he sound any more uninterested in what he’s reading with no voice inflection and rolling stops over periods as if they were commas? I am unable to absorb or process what should be a performance befitting the author’s work. I’ve ordered the book itself and will be able to appreciate the subject as it should be. The audible version will be returned to get my credit back. Please, Audible, consider a redo with a more appropriate narrator. The book and author deserve better.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Not THIS narrator!
Revisado: 01-21-23
A narrator can make or break a story and for me, I simply cannot listen to Ralph Cosham and his thespian-like approach to narration. I guess he's perfect for others, but I can barely get past the first chapter when I hear his unmistakable monotonous drone, especially for this title. I have very much enjoyed the Inspector Gamach TV series interpretation and somehow expected to find that in the audiobook. I wonder how the author pictured her work to be delivered. In this case, I'll need to read the actual book to capture the experience I was expecting.

Don"t get the raving
Revisado: 11-18-22
I don’t get all the great reviews. I’ve read and re-read all the BC (Before Covid) Harry Bosch books and hoped the pattern would continue. I knew the pace would be fast and hold my interest, the characters would be well developed, the women interests in Bosch’s life were always strong and capable and the insight into LAPD detective work would be thorough. Then Connelly introduced his Renee Ballard character and I found her a detraction to the story line. She seems to have no depth of personality, no friends, a dog that sees daycare more than its owner, and as a case supervisor doesn't seem quite the equal to Harry who has the benefit of decades of experience. Maybe it’s the narraator, because Christine Lakin just doesn’t nail it for me. In this case I had to keep checking my playback speed because she seemed to keep bogging down in her narration. Half way through she sounds like she’s just lost interest and that’s pretty much where I lost interest myself. I thought Harry was back after Connelly felt his politics needed to have a forum, but something is just missing now. Maybe do more with the Lincoln Lawyer?

Unintelligible voice inflections
Revisado: 09-06-22
I struggled through this book with the narration. Jarl Dragon Heart lives with his clan on the Isle of Man, tells us that he’s born a Saxon, is Norse through his mother, is a former slave, and as such has the benefit of his experiences and it is through his eyes that the saga is told. The narrator gives him a clear, understandable, almost aristocratic British accent. However, Marston York’s voice inflections for the Jarl’s raiders is what ruined it for me. For some reason Mr. York thought it would sound authentic to give them all – including the Jarl’s son - thick, unintelligible Norse accents in a higher range than the Jarl which to me made them come across as primitive barbarians that have been unaffected by their experiences or interactions with the British monks and villagers they brought back as slaves. And we are told that many of the raiders were also former Saxon slaves. Oh, and the Jarl’s wife is inexplicably given a Scottish accent. Really? The Jarl and his wife are the only ones in the clan who have sophisticated speech? At first it was frustrating trying to understand the conversations, but it soon became just irritating and I missed many parts of the story and resigned myself to an abbreviated listening experience as told through the Jarl. It becomes tiring when the narration goes from understandable to …..something, something…escaped….something, something… over the hill…. something, something… back to the shore…. ok, understandable again. Overall, the book was a pretty good read thanks to the Jarl’s story telling and I felt we get a lot of detail about Viking life and raiding adventures. This is unfortunately not one I would read again and again like other books I keep in my library. Unless you have a better ear than mine, I can’t recommend you share the frustration

Disapointed
Revisado: 12-24-21
I enjoyed the movie so much so I was eager to listen to the book for a more in-depth story. In this case, I agree with the other reviewer who said the movie was better, The narrator is one of my favorites and I enjoyed her in The Help, but unfortunately her performance here didn't enhance the author's work. All her characters blend into each other and the result was meh. This is a sweet story and could have been so much more. I knocked off an overall star because the audible version is so poor. This is one I will read instead.

Could have been shorter
Revisado: 10-23-21
This is a touching story and made me feel like I was part of the community. The narrator was good but could have given more definition between characters as I found myself asking "Now who is this again?" However, I found his interpretation of the pastor and Warren very good. The story itself I felt could have been half as long. Many things were drawn out too far - altercations between people, details of daily life, investigations of a murder, how long it takes for a cigarette to burn down to fingertips - all could have been edited without affecting the story itself and I ended up skipping about 5 chapters because I just wanted to get on with it, Some readers were more affected emotionally and someone disliked the ending, but overall this was an enjoyable story and a nice escape from a world that's now stranger than fiction.

Just as enjoyable as the screen version
Revisado: 09-30-21
I don't know what it is about Peter Hosking's narration but I listen to this over and over. The story combined with the narration always provide a good escape and I listen as I fall asleep on the lowest volume and again when I'm on the road. I find the audio version just as enjoyable as the TV version and never get tired of it. I have tried other titles Peter has narrated and it's just not the same. This is another keeper for me.

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

I was first introduced to this title by watching the Netflix version and was eager to have it as an audiobook. For me this is a winner thanks to the well-chosen narrators. I listen to this title often and enjoy it every time. I have found anything Jenna Lamia narrates to be excellent and have not been disappointed. This is a keeper.

Fell Asleep
Revisado: 09-26-21
I don't get the others who rave about the narrator. Lovely voice, yes, but it wasn't enough to engage me in the story. I think I'm spoiled by the Australian TV series because all the narrator's voices seemed to run together and she kept lulling me to sleep. I use audible to listen while I drive and do other tasks so I was hoping to hear something that passed the time and distracted from an upside down world. Sorry, what was the plot again? Not a keeper for me.

Get another narrator
Revisado: 09-12-21
A picture of the probable outcome if we keep going. Great story and I wanted to listen on the road. but I could only take so much of the narrator before downloading the Kindle version. The narrator sounded like he was about to give himself a hernia if he kept up his level of snark. Tony Katz's Kelly Turnbull emphasized the sense that Kelly is as much an elite for the red side as the elites on the blue side. Kelly is a well-trained military commando with survival skills, lives alone on a 500 acre Texas spread away from civilization, and in spite of the contempt he seems to have for those needing rescuing from the now very red Los Angeles, under all that noise it sounds like he actually enjoys the adrenalin rush. I think Kurt said the narrator was his personal choice, but I'd like to hear a reading by an older, more seasoned voice. While I get that the character needs to be young and reckless, it’s just that the narrator is a turnoff. The story itself seems almost plausible and the Orwellian feel is starting to look more real these days.
