This book just bumped out The Painted Bird and 1984. If you enjoy darker works all the above will appeal to you. The characters are easy to connect with. The author and narrator make dynamic team in this telling.

Contrary for the sake of contradiction

This is an ok read if you want to hear the worse possible scenario. Alexander is painted as tyrannical as any other conqueror. There is much historic evidence to the opposite.
Author clearly has hard feelings towards the man and legend of Alexander. Many names are mispronounced and or misspelled.
Good to hear the worst and best accounts, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
