A new generation of an honorable family fights the many battles of medieval England. Castles are built and destroyed; lives are saved and lost. Even if our hero is a little too perfect, it's still a fun listen. The reader's voice is spot on.
Historical fiction like this should serve as a classroom textbook. How much more fun could our history class have been!

The book puts me in the time and space of medieval England in the Scottish borderlands. It feels realisticly harsh but the author adds enough feel good elements for me not to give up on reading. Great main characters and story pacing.

I thought I could get used to the horrible electronic voice. Alas, despite my strong interest in Tudor spying - just couldn't take it any more. Right up there with the dentist's drill.

I simply had to quit early on. Could not bear to listen to female reader and all her voices and strange accents any more.
The story had an interesting concept but the narrative seems to be written for 13 year olds. If you fall in that age group, maybe you'll enjoy this.

I couldn't stop listening to this and initially kept bursting into laughter. In the grocery store; the gym...
And then, the story's pace picked up steam like a runaway train heading for the side of a mountain. I highly recommend this.

I have read Mr.Cornwell's Last Kingdom series and found them enthralling. This book is a departure from his genre and I wasn't sure I'd like it. But it had me at Shakespeare. The story brings us into the early days of Shakespeare's et al company of players in Elizabethan theater world. The first performance of A Midsummer Nights Dream is interwoven into the plot. It is fairly light hearted without closing its eyes to the time period's harsher realities. A satisfactory ending makes this a fun read.

Thoroughly enjoyable. From battle scenes to everyday life of early 15th century this well paced historical fiction entertains as well as educates. I recommend this whole series.
The performance by Marston York is, as always, excellent .

Well paced adventures of James of Ecclestone during the time of Henry VII. The author has excellent knowledge of the time period and landscape of the era. The main character's ability to rub elbows with the top nobility seems a bit improbable but it gives the author a way for us to glance that portion of life.( I much prefer that to the lazy information dumps of many other historical fiction authors.)
I hope this becomes a series!
