Theres a couple gems in a sea of self-grandiose fluff. I made 3 memes yesterday, each with more content in one sentence than this entire book. He uses a lot of over-the-top vocabulary to sound like he is actually saying something when he isnt.

This book is not without some good moments, but the real question is do you want to listen to a caricature of william shattner's acting for 15 hours. Some books you just cant put down. This is the opposite. Its a struggle to pick it up.

Pros: Wendig has a good idea of painting pictures. And, theres one character Bones, that is interesting. Dialogue between characters is sometimes decent.

Cons: Choppy writing. Disjointed scenes. Fails to make me care about any of the characters except for Bones, who has a very minor part. Writing the book in simple present tense so that it sounds like an 8yo's first writing project in parts. Failure to really follow any particular narrative - its all over the place.

Youre better off watching a youtube video about whats important from this book. I felt like I was getting dumber listening to it.

This was the best book Ive read (listened to) in years. Zahn is a masterful story-teller. His characters have supreme depth and realism. The story has moments so real, so unerringly honest, that you are right there, perhaps speaking to someone you know. Nothing is ever forced for story sake. It is both ingenious and organic. Few fantasy-scifi novels have ever touched on the genuine depth found in this book. --- Within the novel, you will also find the "thoughts of Thrawn" , and they are such deep, real world insights, they could easily be a stand alone philosophy course. --- Read this novel. You will not be disappointed.

its a decent book, but rather dry. I never found myself particularly interested in the characters. The narrator is good except the Vader voice which is really hard to believe its Vader. It was distracting.

Failed to construct a coherent narrative. It was interesting at first. The scene of cultural revolution was striking. At some point though, it just got erratic and boring. Characters didnt develop - they were more like pegs for endless meandering without point. What I thought would be a cool read became a task I avoided like the dishes.
