Historia
On the heels of her triumphant How to Be a Victorian, Ruth Goodman travels even further back in English history to the era closest to her heart, the dramatic period from the crowning of Henry VII to the death of Elizabeth I. Drawing on her own adventures living in re-created Tudor conditions, Goodman serves as our intrepid guide to 16th-century living. Proceeding from daybreak to bedtime, this charming, illustrative work celebrates the ordinary lives of those who labored through the era.

Well written if brief

Very well written. The chapters easily go by and the narrator is decent if a bit monotonous. The only complaint is cost for the listen time given.

Very well written

This book is well written, well read, and pulls you in encouraging you to listen to one chapter after the next. My only complaint is the highly religious Christian emphasis on every single aspect of the book. While other cultures and religions are mentioned the entire book is based through the eyes of a medieval Christian pilgrim and no other viewpoint is offered nor is this mentioned in the description. While a pleasant listen and while this book does offer an interesting view of the medieval world it would have been nice to be warned it is only through Christina eyes that we get to see it.

I always love listening to dressed, usually while sewing or knitting some sort of historical inspired item. This time however when I heard the comment of how hard it is to find specifically larger sizes I felt I had to say something. Five years ago this was indeed the problem in America. Our fluffier people couldn't find larger sizes that would fit them in your average store. These days however it is more common to find a size 5xl than a size xs. A further problem that I have noticed as a seamstress is our xs these days is what a small or even a medium was 10 years ago. This is an issue as it makes myself and other smaller but perfectly healthy women feel left out and like there is something wrong with us. While I understand and applaud providing ready to wear garments for the fluffier crowd it is not ok that those of us at smaller healthy weights cannot find clothing that fits. When a brand refuses to even make xs clothing but happily stocks dozens of 3xl 4xl and 5xl items the "fashion" society could be said to have a problem. Happily though the utter lack of garments that fits can be remedied by either sewing for yourself or funnily enough shopping the children's section. Some of those girls blouses and dresses are really cute just watch out for too juvenile items!

Historia
On Sarah A. Chrisman's 29th birthday, her husband, Gabriel, presented her with a corset. The material and the design were breathtakingly beautiful, but her mind immediately filled with unwelcome views. Although she had been in love with the Victorian era all her life, she had specifically asked her husband not to buy her a corset - ever. She'd heard how corsets affected the female body and what they represented, and she wanted none of it.

very entertaining
Revisado: 10-27-21
I really enjoyed this book and listened to it whilst hand sewing my own late victorian corset. my only issues were that it would have been lovely to know where the different articles of antique clothing were obtained. also I noted the entire time I listened to this, including the multiple times she had to remove the outer layers of clothing, that no mention of a chemise wss made. or indeed any other garment that was worn between her corset and her skin. As a matter of fact it was highly implied that she never wore such a garment. Which then begs the question as a chemise was such a mainstay of victorian, and indeed most historic types of clothing from premedieval to 1900s, how was such an all important garment overlooked?
