Historia
As the cultural conversation around race, gender, and sexuality has evolved, straight white men are becoming increasingly aware of their privilege. But many may be left thinking, "OK, what am I supposed to do about it?" "We need a way forward beyond feelings of guilt, overwhelmingness, anger, and denial." Straight white male pastor Chris Furr offers a guide to deconstructing that privilege in Straight White Male. With an emphasis on confession and redemption, Furr invites other privileged men to reconsider the ways they live, work, believe, and interact with others.

Excellent, Even for Atheists
Revisado: 02-08-25
I am a straight, most white male and this book gave me many insights and helped me understand that the harm I had done, while never able to be undone, can be reduced through learning and acting in new ways. I was an "angry atheist" growing up, and am still an atheist. Yet this book never got to preachy or moralistic brow beating. Instead, it offered many insights, nuances, and engaging stories. I don't believe in redemption, but I do think we can all learn, change, and grow. This hook helped me do that. Thank you to the authors, and to the readers who decide to take a new path.

The Only Book On Habit Forming You Need
Revisado: 06-29-23
I've read a few books on habit building, including James Clears Atomic Habits. This book, The Willpower Instinct, is by far the best of them. It's designed like a ten week corse with self reflection, tips, and guidance in each chapter. You'll learn why we promise ourselves will "start tomorrow," but never do, how to overcome urges, and even a bit of how to control your environment so you can over come your "bad habits."
My psychology teacher, who is a psychologist specializing in OCD, recommended this book. Now, after reading and studying it for the last 2 weeks, I'm recommending it to you, and all my friends. It's helped me move toward my goals of waking up early, daily meditation, and daily exercise. May it help you too!

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Historia
Russ Harris offers a surprising solution to low self-confidence, shyness, and insecurity: Rather than trying to "get over" our fears, he says, the secret is to form a new and wiser relationship with them. Paradoxically, it's only when we stop struggling against our fearfulness that we begin to find lasting freedom from it.

Notes on The Confidence Gap
Revisado: 09-30-21
This is perhaps the most important book I've ever read in my life. I've read perhaps two or three dozen self help books, ranging from good to awful. But this book, in the few weeks I took to read it, process it, and use the knowledge within has genuinely improved my life.
My biggest take away is this: One does not win when they "finally make it" or reach some goal, but on success at any moment they live according to their values.
Another big take away for me is that you will never get rid of fear, negative thoughts, or doubt, but you can unhook yourself anytime you want, and live according to your values.
The myth busting was also a fantastic and really helped me overcome some mental frustrations.
I needed this book as a teenager, but I'm glad I found it at 25.

Historia
Often, we treat games like work. We buy shelves of thick books. We plan detailed adventures. We memorize rules. In Play Unsafe, Graham Walmsley explores what happens when you throw the serious stuff away: when you stop working, stop planning and start playing. This book explains how to make role-playing less like work and more like play; stop killing other players' ideas and build on them instead; and put stories at the heart of your game.

This Book Changed My Prep!
Revisado: 09-26-20
I've read a lot of GMing books and blogs. From Sly Flurish, The Angry GM, Guy, and so on. I've gained a lot of knowledge from the former, but this one really helped me tighten up my GM prep, shorten my notes, and helped me create my own preping system. If you're a DM/GM, of any kind, there's a lot you can learn here!
(Oh, and don't listen to the comment saying the books to intensive and says "I don't want to write a book." The author in no way suggests you write a book. He's got a wife and kids, and no time to write a book for each session. And he mentions how having to many notes can slow you down in session. That commenter missed some key messages in the book itself.)

The Art Of Writing
Revisado: 09-20-20
I had the chance to read this in high school and kicked myself for not picking it up then. I have spent the last two years or so on and off studying writing, mainly structure. This has left me to see writing in a loosely one dementional process.
I'm close to getting the mechanics, but this book showed me the art, philosophy of writing. I've learned, in part thanks to it, to stop being so critical of myself when writing. And that's made a world of difference.

Historia
One of the great fears many of us face is that despite all our effort and striving, we will discover at the end that we have wasted our life. In A Guide to the Good Life, William B. Irvine plumbs the wisdom of Stoic philosophy, one of the most popular and successful schools of thought in ancient Rome, and shows how its insight and advice are still remarkably applicable to modern lives. In A Guide to the Good Life, Irvine offers a refreshing presentation of Stoicism, showing how this ancient philosophy can still direct us toward a better life.

A Great Guide!
Revisado: 08-30-20
This book answered a lot of my questions on Stoicism and I feel I have confidence to practice stoicism now! The only complaints I've read and could agree with is the books written like a stoic book, and the narrator is only slightly less dry. If this bothers you, I recommended speeding up the audio.
These complaints are laughably silly when compared to the knowledge and insights that the book has to offer!

Slave Morality
Revisado: 04-09-20
Like Christianity, this philosophy praises those who are small and sad, saying they'll have the best life, while basically promising those with much and in power that there doomed. Because no good person has ever had power over others, only bad people (sarcasm).
There is some decent stuff in this book that does not revolve around slave Morality, and if your familiar with stoicism then much of this will be familiar to you.
And the narrator has a soothing voice.
