Historia
Why is Miami… Miami? What does the heartbreaking fate of the cheetah tell us about the way we raise our children? Why do Ivy League schools care so much about sports? What is the Magic Third, and what does it mean for racial harmony? In this provocative new work, Malcolm Gladwell returns to the subject of social epidemics and tipping points, this time with the aim of explaining the dark side of contagious phenomena. Through a series of gripping stories, Gladwell traces the rise of a new and troubling form of social engineering

Same old stuff
Revisado: 11-09-24
The book is worth the listen but I found nothing particularly profound here. I have read most of his books and enjoyed them all. I always look forward to the insights within but somehow this one just doesn’t make the cut.

Historia
A groundbreaking guide to the surprising source of good health. Genetics and lifestyle are thought to be the two most important determinants of good health. But that is not the whole story. We have a second genome, our gut bacteria, that sets the dial on our bodies. Unlike our DNA, we can influence the gut bacteria, or microbiota, to optimize all aspects of our health. In The Good Gut, noted Stanford researchers Justin and Erica Sonnenburg investigate how the trillions of microbes that reside in our gastrointestinal tract help define us.

Great information

It’s a little redundant but informative. If you really want to understand what’s really going on inside you, this is a great place to start.

With stories that entertain as much as they inform, renowned evolutionist David Sloan Wilson outlines the basic principles of evolution and shows how, when properly understood, they can illuminate the length and breadth of creation, from the origin of life to the nature of religion.

Pure excellence even for those that understand evolution
Revisado: 10-08-23
I have passed by this book for years simply because of the title. Thinking “I know this stuff, how could it be more than a waste of time. Being a big fan of Dawkins and E O Wilson somehow I missed out on D S Wilson. This is a powerfully moving book, it makes me want to throw away my whole successful career and start from the beginning one again. Plus for those who have only an inkling of what understanding evolution can do for you, this book is a great resource. A++++
The performance is actually really good. The reason I give it a 4 is because I really love to hear an audio book presentation reading by the author. David Sloan Wilson, you have gained another worshipper 😉. #iloveevolutiion

Historia
Over billions of years, ancient fish evolved to walk on land, reptiles transformed into birds that fly, and apelike primates evolved into humans that walk on two legs, talk, and write. For more than a century, paleontologists have traveled the globe to find fossils that show how such changes have happened.

Excellent audio book.
Revisado: 08-03-23
Neil has a wonderful talent to explain complexities much like Richard Dawkins. He creates a modern synthesis of evolution and genetics in this book. He does this similarly to the way Dawkins did in the 1970s with the Selfish Gene. I wish it was a bit longer and would love to hear him narrate his own work.
