Historia
Since its publication in 1977, The Unsettling of America has been recognized as a classic of American letters. In it, Wendell Berry argues that good farming is a cultural and spiritual discipline. Today’s agribusiness, however, takes farming out of its cultural context and away from families. As a result, we as a nation are more estranged from the land - from the intimate knowledge, love, and care of it.

Relevant and Fascinating
Revisado: 01-08-23
Wendell Berry is on an intellectual level few can achieve. History has proven many of his concerns true. The influence of big business on political policy that turned Americans from producers to consumers is more evident today than ever. His warnings about larger commercial business farms contaminating the land and poisoning the animals and people are almost weekly articles that pop up on your phone. Beautifully written and expertly read by Offerman.

Historia
There's so much confusion about what to eat. Are you jumping from diet to diet and nothing seems to work? Are you sick of seeing contradictory health advice from experts? Just like the tobacco industry lied to us about the dangers of cigarettes, the same untruths, cover-ups, and deceptive practices are occurring in the food industry. Vani Hari, a.k.a. The Food Babe, blows the lid off the lies we've been fed about the food we eat - lies about its nutrient value, effects on our health, label information, and even the very science we base our food choices on.

Familiar Story
Revisado: 01-26-22
Sometimes the truth is uncomfortable. It can cause us to doubt everything we believed and force us to no longer live blissfully thinking someone else is looking out for our health. This book brings you to the painful, liberating reality of what’s really going on. You have to take responsibility for you and your family’s health, because “big food” and the FDA is not. “Big food” only considers your health in conjunction with their profit margin. The tactics used by “big food” to manipulate the public using social media, front groups and their own paid doctors and nutritionists is the EXACT same playbook used by “big pharma” (read “The Real Anthony Fauci”). These books help you become aware of what’s going on around you and give you the power to make more informed decisions. Kudos to Vani for remaining an independent voice!

Historia
When we think about the future of war, the military and Washington and most everyone gets it backwards. We think in terms of buying single military systems, such as fighter jets or aircraft carriers. And when we think about modernizing those systems, we think about buying better versions of the same things. But what really matters is not the single system but "the battle network"—the collection of sensors and shooters that enables a military to find an enemy system, target it, and attack it.

Worth The Short Time
Revisado: 10-01-19
Several things were repeated and I started to get aggravated, but then I realized it was helping me retain the information. There were some key points I was not aware of that make the book very well worth the short time. The narrator sounds like Wilford Brimley having an episode of the sugars, but I found myself not minding that either.
