Daphne du Maurier was one of the most versatile authors to ever write in the English language and this collection showcases her genius, each drama is unusually good and I look forward to revisiting them in the future.

For a little over one week the highlight of my days were the hours spent listening to The Barchester Chronicles, I laughed and cried and absolutely hated for it to end (it went straight into my favorites collection as soon as it finished). Everything about this production (script, actors, background sounds, original musical score) is perfection. I can hardly wait to listen to it again!

Contrary to my usual practice of reading the book(s) before listening to (or watching) a literary adaptation I went into this drama collection with only the knowledge gleaned from the Wikipedia articles relating to Arnold Bennett and his Five Towns Novels. At first I was unsure if I would be able to keep all the numerous characters and their storylines straight in my head but they quickly grabbed my interest and the fact that each character has a highly individual life helped me avoid confusion. The acting is absolutely top notch but my one complaint is the music is slightly jarring, it grew on me eventually but electronic instruments seem an odd choice for a story set during the Victorian era.

A century before the world was delighted by Julian Fellowes' smash hit multigenerational family saga John Galsworthy had a similar success with his 9 book series + multiple short stories covering the lives and loves of the Forsyte family. There have been multiple adaptations (television and radio) of the books, all very popular and well done, but this dramatization is my favorite. The entire cast is perfect and there is just enough variation in their voices that I never confused characters with one another, which can occasionally become a problem in radio dramas with large casts.

This was my very first Audible purchase and the start of my love affair with BBC radio dramas, of which I now own hundreds. I listen to this particular drama on a fairly regular basis and never tire of it; the adaptation is marvelous and the actors all perfect in their roles, I feel as if I were there with Cassandra and her eccentric but lovable family and friends.

I have long been familiar with When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, having read it as a child as part of my family's homeschool study of the Holocaust and then again as a teenager when my younger siblings were introduced to the book, but was not aware of the two subsequent books detailing the further experiences of Anna and her family until recently. After reading them this past winter as an adult I decided to try the BBC radio dramatizations. I would say they are very good but the books are much richer and more poignant, many of the scenes in the books that stood out the most for me unfortunately did not make it into the radio dramas so while I enjoyed the listening experience and rate it highly I recommend the books themselves more.

A Must Have for Brontëphiles!

Few authors have my heart the way the 3 Brontë sisters do, I have read all 7 of their novels at least twice and they rank as some of my favorite books of all time (except The Professor, I can see why publishers initially rejected it). Rachel Joyce did an excellent job on her dramatizations and I am thrilled she adapted the lesser known Brontë titles (Agnes Grey, Shirley, Villette) as well as the more popular Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

Excellent adaptation of Olivia Manning's 6 novel masterpiece based on her experiences during WWII. Each actor was excellent in their role but James Fleet as Prince Yakimov and Honeysuckle Weeks as Harriet Pringle were especially engaging.

Not suitable for children due to the nature of the content.

I have loved the books of Noel Streatfeild since my first reading of Ballet Shoes at the age of ten years old, it instantly became one of my favorite books and even as an adult I read it every few years with the result that I know it so well I can quote whole pages/anticipate the next sentence. This adaptation of Ballet Shoes is the only adaptation that doesn't annoy me by unnecessary changes to the plot (unlike the abomination that is the 2008 film), all of the actors sound exactly how I have imagined their characters all these years and the script has only been tweaked slightly to tighten the plot.

I am not as familiar with The Growing Summer or When the Siren Wailed since my library discarded both books shortly after I read them for the first time and neither book is readily available for purchase in the USA but both dramatizations are very fun and feature child actresses who grew up to have internationally recognized careers.

Rumer Godden has been one of my favorite authors for over thirty years and this collection of BBC radio dramatizations of three of her best loved books did not disappoint, my only regret is that it did not include adaptations of more of her books.
