Not as good as his first book

Interesting at times. He lost me in the last chapter when he went on rant on an impending asteroid metaphor, defending President Trump’s Covid response, attacking CNN and NY Times. I was waiting for him to balance it with Fox News lies and January 6th but nope.

He also credits the American Revolution to solely Thomas Paine’s Common Sense. No denying the influence it had, it was published well after Bunker Hill, Boston Massacre, and the establishment of the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps.

A must read for Americans

Great book and historical account over the revolution. From what lead in the decades prior, through the battles, to the aftermath and legacy.

This goes into detail on the long war that is quickly covered in schools giving the impression it was a short war. This will give an American a clear picture of what happened and at what cost.

Doesn’t hold back in troubling moments or calling out leaders and citizens for their flaws. This makes the book feel more accurate and real.

Classic Military Sci-fi Novel

This is a classic but the audio is due for a new recording. This isn’t because narrator is terrible but the quality of the recording is. At times it sounds off or different. Like they re-recorded a section and spliced it in

Outstanding don’t let the time discourage you

Truly an outstanding book. Despite my military background, I’m not one usually for military books.

But this books is amazing. Damon is everything you want in a soldier and an officer. A must read for those that are serving, considering serving, or just want a great military read

Picked this book for a school assignment...don’t regret it at all

This book will pull you in and you will be shocked and happy with the story.

I picked this book off a reading list for a class I’m taking. I picked it as it was the shortest book, only 9 hours long, and I knew nothing of the topic. I had seen Blood Diamond and knew of child soldiers from Invisible Children but this book shows a different story of a child soldier. He was kidnapped and given a gun. This is a story of a boy who became a believer in the reason to fight before he was trained.
The first chapter tells how he learned of hate and used the hate when it came time to fight.

I could not recommended this book enough

Whether you listen to them one at a time or straight through, you will love them.

My only wish is that he provided a PDF on the backgrounds of the stories, a text copy of the introduction, so I can refer back to it to know why he wrote a story.

I jumped into stoicism after a troubling time for me and realize how I didn't like how reacting. After reading some articles, an interview with Ryan Holiday, and a podcast, I decided to get this book and I have no regret.
This isn't a translation of an ancient book or an essay on what he thinks stoicism is. It is a book on historical figures that have used attributes of stoicism to succeed. From victory on the battlefield to overcoming disasters.
Having Ryan Holiday narrative his own book adds a deeper level here. He knows what to emphasize and you can care he follows these examples.
I couldn't stop listening and plan to listen to it again in the summer.
