Historia
The history of colonial America is a story of extraordinary scope, with Europeans, Africans, and the native peoples of North America interacting in a drama of settlement and conflict that lasted nearly three centuries. Go back in time and relive this epic story in 36 spellbinding lectures. While concentrating on British North America, Professor Allison also covers developments in the colonial outposts of Spain, France, the Netherlands, and the all-important British possessions in the West Indies, which were the source of the most lucrative crop in the New World - sugar - and the reason for the enormous growth in the slave trade.

Great historical novel, not so great narration
Revisado: 09-16-23
Overall, I enjoyed the story but I hate to say that I suffered through the narration. The characters were nicely woven into the fabric of history. The language and behavior of the characters didn’t quite match with the customs and traditions of those days but the facts and events were close enough. I think I would have enjoyed reading the book than listening to audio version.

Historia
As far as Fitzwilliam Darcy is concerned, the only good thing to come of Elizabeth Bennet’s bitter refusal of his heart and his hand was his new resolve to prove himself a better man. He’d done it, too, by closing the painful distance between himself and his estranged younger brother, Drew. And now Drew is newly engaged to be married…to Elizabeth Bennet. Family duty forces Darcy to support the engagement, especially since even the smallest hint of disapproval could ruin the brothers’ hard-won reconciliation. But how can he bear to watch his brother marry the woman he loves?

Genius plot
Revisado: 01-30-23
Another great P&P variation by Abigail Reynolds. Clever and original plot with good doses of angst. The story and characters are well developed . However that last 1/3 -1/4 of the story was rushed and not as skillfully executed as the first 2/3 of the story.

Slightly strange story, fantastic performance
Revisado: 05-27-19
In my opinion this novel is not one of the best of Mary Balogh’s works. The plot is plausible but slightly tough to swallow and digest. Maybe we have more decided opinion about the issues of incest, age and overall dynamic of sexual relationships nowadays, I tried to keep open mind the entire story, knowing that the author always have many valuable lessons and points hidden in all her stories.
I think that commissioning Rosalyn Landor was a very wise decision because her magnificent performance kept me interested and helped me finish it. The story is definitely worth listening to but it pales in comparison to the author’s other works.

Not much of a substance
Revisado: 09-30-18
I think that the plot could have had some potential. Empty story, just to fill up the gap between various sexual scenes. The narrator did a great job but the story was not salvageable despite her great performance. I’m afraid I was not able to finish it and stopped at chapter 22. Even the intrigue of uncovering the mystery was not enough motivation to help me go through the story.

Not my cup of tea.
Revisado: 08-01-18
The idea of painting once portrait to prove innocence in my opinion is ludicrous. However the mystery plot had potential. Far too many repetition of intimate scenes.
Outstanding narration, however was the reason that I went through the story.

Lovely tale, outstanding narration

Well written story as every other novels by Ms. Klassen. The narration is performed masterfully and I felt that the narrator was able to resonate and relay the author’s intended thoughts and feelings with her beautiful voice and effortless story telling.
Just loved it! Well done Ms. Klassen and Ms. Jasicki!

Threatened by French spies, assassins, and calculating suitors, can Lady Henrietta Harcourt trust the infamous rake, Lord Cordelier Rathbourne, with her carefully guarded family secrets? In his new, undisclosed position as Director of English Intelligence, Cord faces more peril keeping the brilliant Harcourt family of code breakers safe than he did as undercover spy in Napoleonic France. Cord's passionate attraction for the indomitable Henrietta hasn't diminished in his four years abroad, but neither has Henrietta's memory of his libertine past.

Ordinary story, outstanding performance.
Revisado: 03-04-18
The plot definitely had potentials, but there was nothing about the execution that made it a memorable story. There was hardly any angst and the resolution was too quick and unrealistically easy for my taste.
The performance however was excellent. If it was not because Pearl Hewitt’s exquisite talent in narration, I probably would not have finished this story.
The overall experience was pleasant.

Great story, wonderful audible experience
Revisado: 02-18-18
I truly enjoyed this story and I usually don’t care for books 3,4,5,6.... of most sagas. This book tied all loose ends and the plot didn’t disappoint. However, Alex Wyndham’s performance is what transforms Lucinda Brants great story to a masterpiece. There is no word for me to describe his talent and his mastery of narration. I have listened to fair share of audiobooks and even the best performances pale in comparison. Even if I could rate his narration 10 stars, it would still won’t do the justice for his talent.
Bravo Mr. Wyndham!

Historia
After Lucinda's father is killed in action, he leaves her under the guardianship of a former pirate, the devastatingly handsome Captain Riel Montclair. Riel is a barbaric rogue, however, as he demonstrates the very first evening he arrives. Montclair clearly has a will of iron, which frustrates Lucinda beyond measure. Even more distressing, once Riel signs the legal papers with the solicitor, he will not only dictate her choice of a husband, but he'll financially control her centuries old estate, Ravensbrook, too.

A drag of story with a horrid and extremely foolish heroine
Revisado: 02-17-18
I don’t know how I was able to endure this story with it’s at best mediocre narration. The only thing that kept me going was wanting to know the details of Riel’s past. Riel was too good for the annoying, belligerent and stupid heroine. I have never hated a heroine this much!
The plot had some potential but in my opinion was poorly executed. The dialogue and interactions were far from regency era. The author’s poor attempt to create the angst she intended is laughable.
I don’t like to write poor reviews. I simply don’t rate the book that is not to my taste. However, I have not had such a bad a unpleasant experience with this audible, that was so far from its current rating that I felt compelled to express my opinion. I believe the narrator was not able to perform well enough to salvage this childish novel.
