I wasn't a fan starting out. The min character comes across as a psychopath and has little relatable qualities just wanting to fight. Slowly they actually grow as a person, still not doing things for the right reason but getting there

This felt almost for me. This was almost a compelling setting. The characters were almost fledged out. The story was almost good.

Everything feels like it doesn't hit the mark. The setting starts to grow and then feels tacked together. The characters feel like we are going to get growth but just has 2 dimensions. The story feels it is going to give you something and just doesn't feel like it is going anywhere.

As for narration the story continually point out the main character is American and characters try to guess their origin but no one gets it and you won't either because she cannot do a Boston Accent. I rarely could tell anyone apart when their wasn't just a male and female talking. groups muddled together.

I'm not sure if this would have read better but the narration really stole the show in a bad way.

First the narrator, Kevin isn't a bad narrator and his narration of Brust's other series is really good but it felt all wrong for these characters. Half of the characters sounded like caricatures of cliche stupid people from movies and radio shows. Then odd accent choices for characters that for the last 15 books have been narratored without accents.

As for the story itself, Vlad feels like he is lacking intelligence most of the time. All of a sudden he is getting vocabulary lessons multiple times throughout chapters. I remember in the past he didn't know everything but this felt extreme.
Knowing the ending to this stories start is a little sad but the journey is worth it.

The book is one of my favourite starts to a series with show me world building and less dialogue to hear what things are. However the AI narrator is horrible, wrong inflections and weird word pronunciation. would love to hear an actual narrator read.

There were some funny spots but it was only heartfelt and mildly depressing to listen to during the day.

The Green Trilogy takes the Max Porter series to new heights with fresh storylines and character development. Southern Rites starts things off strong, picking up where the Red Trilogy left off, with new twists and turns that keep the plot engaging. While the appearance of Max's mother in Southern Rites may not be everyone's cup of tea, the growth of the other characters more than makes up for it. Southern Craft ups the ante with the introduction of new witches and deeper explorations of the craft, and Sandra's character development is a highlight of the book. However, the Porter family's constant bickering and lack of communication can feel forced at times. Southern Spirit picks up right where Southern Craft left off, with the same level of intensity and action-packed scenes. While the continuation feels seamless, it also gives the impression that these two books could have been merged into one. The ongoing frustration with the Porter family's communication issues and bickering is still present, but the new developments in the story and relationships really bring it home. Overall, the Green Trilogy is a wild ride that fans of the series won't want to miss, even with its minor flaws.

The Red Trilogy takes the Max Porter story to a new level with an engaging plot, well-developed characters, and unexpected twists. In Southern Bound, we are introduced to Max and his ability to see ghosts, and we are quickly drawn into his world of supernatural mysteries. The chemistry between Max and Drummond is a highlight of the book, and the audiobook version narrated by Stuart Jaffe really brings the characters to life.

In Southern Charm, we see the continued development of the relationships between Max, Drummond, and Sandra, as they work together to solve a new mystery. The characters are just as charming and relatable as before, and the mystery is equally compelling. Jaffe's narration once again adds a layer of depth and emotion to the story.

Finally, Southern Curses is an amazing conclusion to the Red Trilogy, with a twisty plot that keeps you guessing until the very end. While the absence of the Hull family is noticeable, the growth and development of the other characters more than make up for it. Jaffe's narration is once again exceptional, bringing the story to life in a way that makes it hard to stop listening. Overall, the Red Trilogy is a must-read for fans of supernatural mysteries and those looking for engaging characters and unexpected twists.

Stuart Jaffe's Blue Trilogy is an entertaining and engaging paranormal mystery series that hooks readers from the start. The chemistry between the main characters, Max and Drummond, is a standout element throughout the series. Jaffe's research is impressive, as it adds depth and authenticity to the story.

While the first book, Southern Bound, is a bit rough around the edges, the characters are charming and relatable, and the audiobook version, narrated by Jaffe himself, elevates the experience. Southern Charm, the second book, is a great follow-up with an equally compelling mystery and further development of the relationships between Max, Drummond, and Sandra. The conclusion to the trilogy, Southern Belle, brings the story to a satisfying end, with great banter between the trio and a gripping mystery.

Overall, the Blue Trilogy is a great introduction to the Max Porter series, and Jaffe's writing and narration make for an enjoyable and immersive experience.

This is my second go through and this time I'm doing it by publication date not timeline. If you read in order od publication this is confusing. That being said you know the characters and it is nice to see their original adventure.
Wonderful look of how an Easterner handles the Elves in their own setting.
