Historia
Barbara Butcher was early in her recovery from alcoholism when she found an unexpected lifeline: a job at the Medical Examiner’s Office in New York City. The second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan, she was the first to last more than three months. The work was gritty, demanding, morbid, and sometimes dangerous—and she loved it. In What the Dead Know, she writes with the kind of New York attitude and bravado you might expect from decades in the field, investigating more than 5,500 death scenes, 680 of which were homicides.

A Tapestry of memoir and death investigation
Revisado: 05-24-24
As a doc who has always been fascinated by the forensic area where medicine meets policework, this was a great listen. The author’s voice leant an earnestness to the memoir that was important. Her own struggles woven in with her career and the death investigations made for a powerful book.

Historia
In every hospital emergency department there is a room reserved for trauma. It is a place where life and death are separated by the thinnest of margins. A place where some families celebrate the most improbable of victories while others face the most devastating of losses. A place where what matters the most in this life is revealed. Trauma Room Two is just such a place. In this collection of short stories, Dr. Green takes the listener inside the hidden emotional landscape of emergency medicine.

ER stories
Revisado: 10-03-23
As a physician I enjoyed this collection of stories by an ER doc on the edge of burnout. A good storyteller. The narrator captured the prose well. Would listen to another book ny this author.
