Historia
Jill Anthony spent her youth in the ski town of Sparkle, Colorado, but more than a decade has passed since she left. Then a devastating tragedy, coupled with the worst kind of betrayal, makes her want to run away, but the only place she knows to go is home: Sparkle. Lisa Carlucci looks in the mirror one morning and realizes that she no longer wants to treat her body like a Holiday Inn. She’s going to hold out for love. The only problem is, love might come in the form of her ski-bum best friend, who lives next door with his ski-bum friends in a trailer known as "The Kennel".

Revisado: 02-07-25
Already weak plot is overshadowed by derivative dialogue that is insulting to humans. I have liked some of her other writing but this is just… well I wasted a credit and my time.

Historia
It is Coronation Year, 1953, and a new queen is about to be crowned. The people of London are in a mood to celebrate, none more so than the residents of the Blue Lion hotel. Edie Howard, owner and operator of the floundering Blue Lion, has found the miracle she needs: on Coronation Day, Queen Elizabeth in her gold coach will pass by the hotel’s front door, allowing Edie to charge a fortune for rooms and, barring disaster, save her beloved home from financial ruin. Edie’s luck might just be turning, all thanks to a young queen about her own age.

Trite conversations and predictable story line.
Revisado: 01-04-25
Could not even finish this Audible book. That’s a first. The readings are so bad. The readers ignore punctuation and one of the female readers sounds like she is making fun of the whole thing, reading in preposterous voices. Are these things not tested before release? I have enjoyed Robson’s writing before, and I think the story may not actually be that bad. It is just read so poorly. Check the book out from your library, but can’t recommend listening to this. The character of Stella finally made me quit.

Historia
A recent finishing school graduate, 18-year-old Garnet Cameron is desperate for direction. Too driven for the restrictive manners of the upper class, Garnet is naturally drawn to Oliver Hale, a frontier trader from the West. Unlike the men to whom she's accustomed, Oliver treats Garnet as an equal and respects her independence. His tales of adventure on the plains thrill her. And his proposal of marriage is accepted. Then Garnet discovers how ill-prepared she is for the punishing landscape of the Jubilee Trail and the even harsher realities of human nature.

Great story line with lots of twists and turns
Revisado: 08-30-24
This is a tale of settling the West. It weaves actual historical events into the story of one woman’s experience leaving High Society New York and crossing the prairie and settling a new part of the country. This book was written in the 50s, so the references to indigenous peoples are not what we would, or should, consider appropriate today. I hope we are smarter … and more aware. But aside from that, this is an enjoyable and well researched piece of historical fiction.

Squeaky performance of OK story
Revisado: 07-22-24
I’m Usually a Robson fan. Nothing makes a good story like filling out history… and she does it well. But this story was a miss for me. Charlotte, in the role of bespectacled super-hero, is forever saving the day. That gut a bit tiresome. Too much perfection turns your protagonist into plastic. And, our courageous driver, beloved Lilly, has turned into a whiny housewife. That was sad We never get the resolution with and the longed for comeuppance of the delightfully odious Lady.
The historical details, are, of course, beautifully researched, and written so well you feel you are in the scene. But it’s the performance that ruined my experience. The high and (sorry) squeaky delivery of many parts of the book make it almost unlistenable. I’m love to hear it read by a different reader… modulated for ear comfort.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Descriptions of food and places make you want to travel… and eat chocolate!!
Revisado: 06-17-24
The main character over looks an obvious clue, and then takes responsibility for something for which she is, clearly, not at fault. It doesn’t make any sense. (Nor does the reaction of the characters that surround her.) in all other ways she is an intelligent, determined, and insightful character. I found these anomalies, and the resulting whining, very frustrating. The rest of the story is complicated and enjoyable!

Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

The delightful, rich language of times past makes this a listening pleasure. The vocal production is wonderful! This sweet original story is a fan-fiction of sorts of A Christmas Carol. The musings of the curmudgeonly protagonist echo Scrooge-inspired sentiments at times. But, the three spirits are embodied by a tiny child and love brings events to a satisfying Holiday-
worthy conclusion.
