Not exceptional
Revisado: 04-06-25
Another assassin series with flavors from the orphan X series… childhood trauma building the assassin who grows to lack the ability to connect with other people. This isn’t quite as well written. The story got confusing at one point with the back and forth between two scenes seeming to put the character in both scenes at the same time. A glaring ignorance by the author which the editor should have caught… insulin needs to be refrigerated so it is NEVER kept in the medicine cabinet. The ending left things resolved, which I appreciated, and did leave an intriguing opening for the next book. I may just be burned out on this genre.
I found the narrator extremely monotone. If Joe Friday ever narrated audio books he would sound like this. I am rarely unhappy with a narrator, since I usually am immersed in the story, but this narrator’s monotone was a constant distraction.

A stand-alone book which would make a great series!
Revisado: 02-18-25
Although I wasn’t instantly hooked, the hook materialized as I went along. I enjoyed getting to know the characters as well as the progression of the story. The ending was resolved, but left room for the story to continue.

Historia
Five years ago, ordinary Americans fell under the grip of a strange new malady that caused them to sleepwalk across the country to a destination only they knew. They were followed on their quest by the shepherds: friends and family who gave up everything to protect them. Their secret destination: Ouray, a small town in Colorado that would become one of the last outposts of civilization. Because the sleepwalking epidemic was only the first in a chain of events that led to the end of the world—and the birth of a new one.

Great follow-up to 1st book
Revisado: 02-11-25
I really liked that this didn’t follow the path of virtually every other post-apocalyptic book which just deteriorates into Mad Max versions. This continued to feel creative and fresh. I especially enjoyed the characters, which were well developed. Gumball, the very good dog and Pete Corley were my favorites!

An amazing experience
Revisado: 01-26-25
I enjoy creative stories and this definately was that. The character development drew me in and the losses and gains were felt poignantly. A few times I was doubtful that a satisfactory resolution would be found at the end of the story, but without spoilers, I can only say I recommend this audiobook.

COULDN'T FINISH
Revisado: 01-20-25
This is no John Grisham. Dull, dull, dull! Even the narrator sounded bored. The courtroom 'drama' which was presented as clever and masterful...just wasn't. I wasted way too much of my life on this to slog throught the last 2 hours and 16 minutes while rolling my eyes at the obtuseness of the main character and the complete ineptitude of the opposing counsel.

DISAPPOINTING ENDONG
Revisado: 01-19-25
When I read a legal thriller from John Grisham I anticipate clever strategy and twists wrapping up in a feel-good amazing win. The clever strategy and twists were there, along with great character development and good writing; however, the win was marginalized by an incomplete resolution.
The narrator was especially good and added to the enjoyment of listening.

Revisado: 01-08-25
This book was not the fluff piece I was anticipating. It had greater depth, a more intricate plot, more character development than I was expecting. I was really drawn into the story. I highly recommend this book

Unresolved Ending, but great book!
Revisado: 01-06-25
I greatly prefer books which finish with a complete resolution, whether part of a series or not. This book ended with a bit of a clifthanger. Normally I would be angry, but this book was so entirely enjoyable that I still recommend it. I wish I could immediately start the next book, but it has yet to be released. Be aware of that frustration. One of the all-time best books otherwise.

UNRESOLVED ENDING
Revisado: 12-25-24
If you like war books, you will like this book. It is well done and reminiscent of Tom Clancey's books. Just be aware that this book is not intended to be read as a stand-alone book. You need to move on to the rest of the series for the rest of the story.
