Historia
A powerful military force under the command of a renegade Nigerian General seizes power in West Africa. This brutal conquest is only a stepping stone. Unchecked, the human cost of his bloody ambition will be catastrophic. With her ship, the stealth destroyer U.S.S. Cunningham, out of action, Commander Amanda Garrett is given command of the military mission to stop the ruthless General in his tracks. But the Sea Fighter Task Force—an untested flotilla of British, French, and US forces—is outnumbered, outgunned, and operating in the enemy's backyard.

GREAT book, medium reader
Revisado: 12-06-23
I've known these books since they first came out, and they're as good now as they were then. Five stars for the author's efforts!
The narrator here isn't bad, but it's amazing how infuriating it is to hear a reader constantly repeating the same mistake... "zone time" instead of "Zulu time". In a book like this, in the military fiction genre, where military terminology is used, one would expect the reader to have made some effort to understand what she's reading. After the 3rd book I've more or less come to terms with it, but it's still a repetitive annoyance for something that is so ridiculously easy to get right.

Historia
Heavy caliber cannon fire rips across the harbor of a remote South Atlantic research station. Worse is to come. When Argentinian forces launch a lightning strike against the Antarctic peninsular, only a single US Navy destroyer stands between them and the country's ambition to seize the continent's rich resources for herself. The USS Cunningham is sailing into hostile waters, untested, unsupported and far from home. But as the enemy will soon discover, the Cunningham is no ordinary warship, nor her Commander any ordinary Captain...

As my daughter said it... GIRL POWER!!!
Revisado: 11-25-23
YYYEEEEEAAAHHHOOOO!!!! I have been looking for these books in audiobook format for YEARS!!! I am THRILLED to see "The Lady" is on the air at last, her and her "hypertech tin can".
Captain Garrett has been one of my all-time favorite characters for a LONG time, Her quiet but firm, caring but solidly in authority command style is something every commander should emulate, but few do.
Her calm and reasoned approach to lethal force is always a pleasure... one of the key elements of this book I have remembered for all these years was early in this story, during the second harassment from the Argys. The Super-RBOC FOD she threw up in the face of those fighters was hilarious, and a perfect start to the battle for Antarctica.
just as I have read the paperbacks repeatedly, so to will I enjoy this audiobook version. I see a family drive in the near future... and an audiobook the whole family will enjoy!

This hilarious, heartfelt, and soaring adventure will delight fans of The Goonies and Indiana Jones. Performed as a 1930s radio drama, it’s bursting with humor for all ages, orchestral scoring, and some of the most talented voices on Broadway. When their ace pilot parents (and adorable puppy) mysteriously disappear over the Pacific, the Flamingo Sisters - Flo, Faye, and Franny - escape the clutches of their evil Uncle Freidrich (who believes girls should never pilot aeroplanes) and join a flying circus.

Hilariously hilarious. These books are a new favorite for our family!! Great and silly humor. Lots of laughs. A different presentation reminiscent of my early childhood listening to Paul Harvey and other radio story shows.

Blending archaeological fact and legend, the myths of the gods, and the feats of heroes, Marion Zimmer Bradley breathes new life into the classic tale of the Trojan War. Reinventing larger-than-life figures as living people engaged in a desperate struggle that dooms both the victors and the vanquished, their fate is seen through the eyes of Kassandra—priestess, princess, and passionate woman with the spirit of a warrior.

As good now as the first time I read it.
Revisado: 05-17-23
I first read this book I don't know how long ago, and although I often thought of it, I could never remember the title or author. I was looking for a different book when I found this one again... and it was as good as now as it was when first I read it so many years ago.
It is a dark story, set in a dark time, and depicts dark events. But there are good and proud moments, of fun and freedom and victory. There are moments that, if you are like me and "see" the book you are reading, your heart brings you to tears for the events depicted and the characters enduring them. For me, that is the mark of an EXCELLENT author... if I "see a movie" rather than simply hear words. This book is one such as that.
The most memorable moment to me was the postscript... the factual evidence pointing to the existence of Cassandra after the fall of Troy and of her success in making a legacy of her own that has survived to this day.
Yes, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fictional history based on historical facts.

Brinksmanship at its finest!
Revisado: 11-03-22
Fine story telling, right up there with Dale Brown's Silver Tower.
Narration above average, some typical over/under doing accents, but not so it's hard to listen to.
Touching father-daughter moments abound, and in a way this Dad can seriously understand. I started flying sitting in my father's lap at 4 years old in an Aironca Champion 7AC named "Baklava"... a thin fabric airplane with a couple of nuts inside. My sister was in our mother's lap in the back seat... we practically lived in that little airplane! Now my little girl is growing up, and at 3½ years old she said those same words to me for the first time... "I got this Daddy". She's 10½ now... where did that little girl get to?
Nuclear brinksmanship and cliff's edge timing reminiscent of the bad old days of the Cold War. Plot twists, some you can see coming a chapter away, some that are actually eye-opening.
And justice... ooohhhhh yes... old-fashioned brutal justice.
Drag out your favorite hobby, put on your most comfortable listening gear, and enjoy!

Historia
Imperial Intelligence couldn't find them, the Imperial Fleet couldn't catch them, and local defenses couldn't stop them. It seemed the planet-wrecking pirates were invincible. But they made a big mistake when they raided ex-commando leader Alicia DeVries' quiet home/work, tortured and murdered her family, and then left her for dead. Alicia decided to turn "pirate" herself, and stole a cutting-edge AI ship from the empire to start her vendetta. Her fellow veterans think she's gone crazy, the Imperial Fleet has shoot-on-sight orders. And, of course, the pirates want her dead, too.
