Historia
The beloved daughter of Jewish captives in Babylon, Keren is sold into Daniel’s household to help her family survive. She becomes Daniel’s most trusted scribe, while taking lessons and swordsmanship training alongside Daniel’s sons and their best friend, Jared. But after a tragic accident changes the course of her life, Keren finds herself in a foreign country, charged with a mysterious task: teaching a shepherd boy how to become a lord. When she overhears whispers that hint at his true identity, she realizes she must protect him from the schemes of a bloodthirsty king.

Great story, not great narrator
Revisado: 01-30-24
The story kept my interest, but I would’ve preferred a different narrator. The narrator constantly ended words with an upward inflection when the sense of the sentence or phrase called for a neutral or downward inflection - almost as if everything was a question. She also tended to emphasize words that didn’t need emphasis and not emphasize words that needed emphasis to support the message conveyed by the text. But the story and its pace were good enough to keep me listening to the end.

Historia
In this intimate, beautifully crafted collection, Driver writes and narrates with disarming charm and candor about her bohemian upbringing between England and Barbados; her post-university travails and triumphs—from being the only student in her acting school not taken on by an agent to being discovered at a rave in a muddy field in the English countryside; shooting to fame in one of the most influential films of the 1990s and being nominated for an Academy Award; and finding the true light of her life, her son.

Thoroughly enjoyable
Revisado: 04-14-23
Loved how Minnie expressed what was happening her and how she was processing it, both in the short arcs of the essays and the longer arc of her life. Beautiful prose, delightfully narrated.

Historia
Eudora Honeysett is done with this noisy, moronic world - all of it. She has witnessed the indignities and suffering of old age and has lived a full life. At 85, she isn’t going to leave things to chance. Her end will be on her terms. With one call to a clinic in Switzerland, a plan is set in motion. Then she meets 10-year-old Rose Trewidney, a whirling, pint-sized rainbow of sparkling cheer. All Eudora wants is to be left alone to set her affairs in order.

Well-Woven Story of Life, Loss, and Love
Revisado: 04-11-23
I enjoyed the characters, especially the proper, non-nonsense Eudora, and how we come to understand how her past shapes her present and future. I found the characters distinct and believable, and I credit the narrator for portraying them so well.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author Gordon Korman harkens back to his No More Dead Dogs days in this stand-alone that takes a tone more serious than you've ever heard from him before. A boy who's been a bully and hanging out with the wrong friends gets a new start after a memory-loss-inducing accident. But can someone really change who he is, or will the old him merely come back over time?

Good YA Story
Revisado: 12-02-22
I liked this book - it held my interest, even though it slightly strained credulity at times. In the end it’s uplifting without being saccharine.
