Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

One of the great pieces of American literature, expertly delivered by one of America's most memorable voices. Outstanding.

Historia
Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar began in 1949 as a typical slam-bang detective series, and though consistently well written and acted, the series never really captured an enthusiastic audience. However, in the fall of 1955, Bob Bailey took over the title role; veteran director Jack Johnstone and writers John Dawson, Robert Ryf, and Les Crutchfield joined the production team; and the series was transformed into a quarter-hour, five-a-week strip show.

The Best

Everything about it was top notch EXCEPT the repeating commercial for the children's toys. Bob Bailey was the best guy in the best series; it was a perfect storm.

Historia
We struggle to manage complexity every day. We follow intricate diets to lose weight, juggle multiple remotes to operate our home entertainment systems, face proliferating data at the office, and hack through thickets of regulation at tax time. But complexity isn't destiny. Sull and Eisenhardt argue there's a better way: by developing a few simple yet effective rules, you can tackle even the most complex problems.

Good But Formulaic
Revisado: 05-10-16
It followed the very benign (and occasionally dull) path of most business texts, although the imported knowledge was very useful. It's reminiscent of the initially novel but eventually annoying need to crack the walnut shell to get at the food. It's rewarding but not practical for continuous consumption.

Historia
Pepper is a rambunctious big man, and, suddenly, the surprised inmate of a budget-strapped mental institution in Queens, New York. He's not mentally ill, but that doesn't seem to matter. On his first night, he's visited by a terrifying creature who nearly kills him before being hustled away by the hospital staff. It's no delusion: The other patients confirm that a hungry devil roams the hallways when the sun goes down. Pepper rallies three other inmates in a plot to fight back: Dorry, an octogenarian schizophrenic; Coffee, an African immigrant with severe OCD; and Loochie, a bipolar teenage girl.

On Appreciation
Revisado: 03-23-16
My expectations were entirely different: horror was the genre touted, yet it was a literary work. I loved it, I loved that it was, more than anything, character-driven. And characters they were, unique and alive. This is a novel that lets you consider your own circumstances in the world, that not-so-subtly reminds you to appreciate the aesthetics of the natural world and art. A novel well worth donating your time to.
