Not my favorite
Revisado: 01-11-23
It took me a little bit to get into the story more because the narration was flat. However, I did end up listening through, and the story itself was interesting.
Not an edge of seat thriller by any means.
I wouldn't read or listen to this one again.

This was an Audible recommends because you listened to....books and I'm not al all disappointed.
This hit all my feels, The performance was spot on, I felt like I was reliving the lives of Avery and Mae. I smiled, I laughed, I cried, and at times got angry.
I will definitely listen to this one again and highly recommend to anyone who doesn't mind feeling the emotions of the characters.

For Butch Karp, chief assistant district attorney for New York County, the nightmare begins when a shocking act of negligence results in homicide. Goaded by the media's sensational publicity, the public is screaming for blood, and the DA is listening. It is Butch Karp's unpleasant job to give the public what it wants - a thorough administration of hard-line justice - by prosecuting a poor, Hispanic, fifteen-year-old mother for murder. Complicating matters further is Butch's wife, private investigator Marlene Ciampi, who has decided to return to law.

One of my favorites
Revisado: 04-29-22
I have to say this has been one of my favorites in the series thus far!
Marlene's passion, Lucy's real-life dilemmas and growth and Carp's moral compass really bring this family to life.
Nick Sullivan could have expressed a little more emotion in his narration, however I did enjoy listening as his voice is soft and soothing.

Narration is awful!
Revisado: 04-22-22
I've been hooked on the Butch Carp, Marlene Champy series since the first story. I've enjoyed how Robert Tanenbaum developed the characters and the stories have been fun and exciting.
I can't finish this one, it isn't the story line it's the narration. Ugh! James Daniels reads so fast I had to slow the narration down and even then I just couldn't get into the story. The narration is blah! no excitement or punctuation in his voice and the characters voices all run together.
I'm going to find the book to read in Kindle.

A Lincoln Navigator carries three well-dressed people through the barren New Jersey salt flats. The trip is uncomfortable but necessary. Their target has no phone, certainly no email, and never answers his mail. But August Jorgenson is no country bumpkin. Before retiring, he was one of the most famous judges in the country, and only opinions like his fierce opposition to the death penalty kept him from a seat on the Supreme Court.

At first I thought, this may be boring, and then found myself not able to stop listening!
Very interesting listening from a Jurors perspective and hearing how evidence and testimony can be manipulated in a way that minds change and verdicts swing..
This story was well written, the narration was good the ending leaving much to the imagination.
