This book popped into my recommendation que after listening to another in the same genre. I found this book enjoyable to listen to. I only didn't give it 5 stars because it didn't blow me away.

Although it combines elements fro other fairy tales, it gives a unique take Mother Gothel from Rapunzel. If you like alternative retellings of familiar tales, give this one a try.

I listened to this book in 2 days. It was hard to put down as I was so eager to get more of the story. It is beautifully written and a little heart breaking. Suzie Jackson did as excellent job bringing these characters to life. If you're looking for a good thriller, this book is for you. It's on par with The Silent Patient and Gone Girl.

Where are the characters we love? This book focuses on Lysander, Lyria, and Effraim. Darrow, Virginia, Sevro, and Victra have been relegated to side characters. I seems like this is just taking place in the same universe but a separate storyline.

I liked the previous narrator for Lysander. He sounds like a young man which is appropriate considering that Lysander is around 20. But this new guy sounds like he closer to 65, with the waver in his voice. He also changed how names were pronounced in the previous 4 books. I had a hard time distinguishing Lysander from Effraim for this book.

Tim Gerald Reynolds does an outstanding job as usual. But the others are only mediocre at best. I didn't mind the narrator for Lysander, but Lyria was distracting and Effraim annoying. The plot of this book really doesn't progress the story line well. I loved the first 3 books. Unless things are different with book 5, I think you could stop at book 3 and have a really solid trilogy.

Casting and performance were excellent. I would spend a credit on this if I could.

First, I'm confused by the choice of the narrator. Four of the seven main characters are female, and the narrator doesn't handle them well with three of them being indistinguishable from each other. Did they think that it wouldn't be taken seriously if it was narrated by a female? I've listened to many books with a gifted female narrator, who would have pulled off what little story there was. There also wasn't enough pause between shifting points of view, which makes it hard to keep track.

Second, without any spoilers the plot makes no sense from start to finish and lacked originally. It was like the plot of the Witcher told with D&D characters. The battles were just lame and all the same, mostly involving loss of limb. If there's going to be a battle, do it justice and made it epic.

This mystery thriller is not the most imaginative of storylines. The only unique thing about it is the point of view it's told from, relying heavily on an untrustworthy source. I don't know how many times the listener is reminded of Rachel being drunk and regretting being drunk. It makes the story tedious at times to listen to, especially when listening for 5 hours straight. There were times I wanted to stop listening due to all the rambling that goes on.

I was disappointed that a female author would portray 3 deeply flawed and shallow women, all of whom are unlikeable for a various reasons. I guess I like more complex characters and strong women.

If you like this genre, I would recommend "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn.

I listened to the entire book in 3 days. However it got maudlin in part 2 with it repetitive nature. Not a fan of the ending. I've read the entire series several times, but the books with Prince Lestat in the titles are not my favorites.

The narrator was okay. A little inconsistent at times with voicing Lestat's french accent. Marius sounds like he's channeling Ian McKellan's Gandalf. Marius sounds different in my mind, having a strong mature voice. Seth and Marius were difficult to tell apart at times. But I have definitely listened to worse narrators.

Chris Colfer has a wonderful imagination. He has taken classic fairytales and given them his own unique twist. I particularly enjoyed the morales he took from each story; it's not just about princesses being recued by a prince. His sense of humor (played out through Conner) were little gems hidden throughout. It was addictive to listen to as Chris Colfer does a excellent job voicing the characters. I would recommend this audio book to everyone, regardless of age. It's not just for children.
