Who?
Revisado: 12-27-24
There is a housemaid in this book? Barely. The story is OK but not fantastic, or terribly inventive. Pretty standard murder mystery fare. The audiobook narration is extremely slow. I sped it to 1.25 and then it sounded like regular speaking.

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Almost but not quite as good
Revisado: 09-08-24
I’m a big fan of the Bobiverse and have re-listened to them. This one was not quite up to my hopes. Overly technical in the beginning, and I feel that it was at least halfway through before I was much invested in the various storylines.

What a warm and charming book. The concept was just perfect and the stories of the people living and working in and around the building were sharp but loving. The author narrates it perfectly.

Historia
New to town and delusionally confident, Slide imagined himself living in a glossy building with doormen and sweeping views of the skyline. Instead he's landed in a creaking, stuffy apartment with two roommates: a loping giant who hardly leaves his room, and a weight-obsessed neurotic who keeps no fewer than forty-seven lamps throughout the house, blazing at all hours. Unwilling to accept this fate, Slide—a barber with an opaque past—embarks on a quest for the perfect apartment, pinballing through the sprawling, madcap city of Polis and its endless procession of neighborhoods.

Disliked the readers
Revisado: 11-26-23
Pretty good story but I thought the director should have had the performers do some things differently. I wasn’t crazy about the female lead’s super-feminine voice; a little too “scared and helpless.” And the male lead’s voice almost always ended on a sigh.

Historia
Once, there were four worlds, nestled like pages in a book, each pulsing with fantastical power and connected by a single city: London. Until the magic grew too fast and forced the worlds to seal the doors between them in a desperate gamble to protect their own. The few magicians who could still open the doors grew more rare as time passed and now, only three Antari are known in recent memory—Kell Maresh of Red London, Delilah Bard of Grey London, and Holland Vosijk, of White London.

Unrealistic and boring
Revisado: 04-27-23
I keep trying, but I just can’t get into this book, and I should have by this time, nearly a third of the way in. I feel the premise is unlikely, even though the narrator keeps explaining why it’s likely. And overall I’m just finding it to be rather dull. Sigh.

One of the great fantasy series
Revisado: 03-10-23
The Fionavar Trilogy is among the very greats of fantasy. The Summer Tree is mesmerizing. I first discovered the trilogy as a teen almost 40 years ago. I’m utterly thrilled to find them all on audible now. The characters and story can be heartbreaking at times. Very well read by Simon Vance, though I’m still wrapping my head at the Dalrai (sp? I’m listening) having Scottish accents…
