Historia
On April 10, 1970, Hill 927 was occupied by troopers of the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne Division. By July, the activities of the artillery and infantry of Ripcord had caught the attention of the NVA (North Vietnamese Army) and a long and deadly siege ensued. Ripcord was the Screaming Eagles's last chance to do significant damage to the NVA in the A Shau Valley before the division was withdrawn from Vietnam and returned to the US.

Great story about an awful battle.

I love this author and this narrator. I'm not sure what was going on with his voice in part seven but it was quite different from the rest of the book.

Historia
In World War II, 59,000 women voluntarily risked their lives for their country as US Army nurses. For more than half a century these women's experiences remained untold, almost without reference in books, historical societies, or military archives. After years of research and hundreds of hours of interviews, Evelyn M. Monahan and Rosemary Neidel-Greenlee have created a dramatic narrative that at last brings to light the critical role that women played throughout the war.

One of if not the best books on world War II I've read!
Revisado: 06-08-24
This was a great read, the book flowed well learned so much that I previously didn't know and I have a pretty decent knowledge of the nursing history in the military. Thank you so much for this week written book.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

This book grabbed me from the first sentence and didn’t let me go until the very last word and even then I was left longing for more. It was gripping and haunting and funny and draining and exhausting. 20 year Army vet with one tour in Iraq OIF 05-06 134th med co ground ambulance

Historia
It was the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history, claiming a third of all marines killed in World War II. The relentless fighting on Iwo Jima lasted for 36 days, but most of us only know the iconic photo of five soldiers raising the American flag on Mount Surabachi. For Fred Haynes, a young captain in Combat Team 28, Surabachi was one marker in a ferocious blood-letting against an enemy of 22,000 warriors who were dug into caves and tunnels.

Awful narration!!
Revisado: 05-17-21
I’m pretty sure this is the same dull narrator that’s is in all the military films from days long ago. I really really wanted to listen to the book but I haven’t made it past chapter 4 yet.

Historia
The Last Stand of Fox Company is a fast-paced and gripping account of heroism and self-sacrifice in the face of impossible odds. The authors have conducted dozens of firsthand interviews with the battle's survivors, and they narrate the story with the immediacy of such classic accounts of single battles as Guadalcanal Diary, Pork Chop Hill, and Black Hawk Down.

TEN CORPS! Not X corps! Dear God I wanted to reach through and slap the guy! Also a bit on the dry side for narration. Great story!

Historia
For readers and viewers of The Perfect Storm, opening this long-awaited work by Sebastian Junger will be like stepping off the deck of the Andrea Gail and into the inferno of a fire burning out of control in the steep canyons of Idaho. Here is the same meticulous prose brought to bear on the inner workings of a terrifying elemental force; here is a cast of characters risking everything in an effort to bring that force under control.

Really should have read the reviews
Revisado: 06-28-20
Not at all what the book says it was going to be about. Very disappointed. If zero stars was an option I would have given that.
