Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

The soul of a poet: I did not expect this
Revisado: 01-18-23
I’m a long time book critic for many large newspapers and my area of specialty is literary biography. I truly had incredibly low expectations going into this, pure snobbery I see now. I could never have imagined I would be so captivated by this book and it’s lyricism. While I realize of course that Harry had the help of a ghost writer, I feel certain he has gotten short shrift for his intellect his entire life after reading the story, performed by the author himself. I did not expect all of the magic I found it within its pages. I believe his version of events in spite of having been inclined to do precisely the *opposite* at the outset. They did the right thing by leaving such a toxic situation. It is also clear how much he still cares about his father and brother, but they truly did let him down.

Historia
When Ada Calhoun stumbled upon old cassette tapes of interviews her father, celebrated art critic Peter Schjeldahl, had conducted for his never-completed biography of poet Frank O’Hara, she set out to finish the book her father had started 40 years earlier. As a lifelong O’Hara fan who grew up amid his bohemian cohort in the East Village, Calhoun thought the project would be easy, even fun, but the deeper she dove, the more she had to face not just O’Hara’s past, but also her father’s and her own.

Don’t miss this fascinating book
Revisado: 07-04-22
Part memoir, part biography of her famous art critic father, and part exploration of New York School poet Frank O’Hara’s life and career, Ada Calhoun’s fascinating book “Also A Poet” is so absorbing you won’t be able to stop listening. Raised by true bohemians, Calhoun is exacting in her portrayal of what life is like with a difficult, self-absorbed father whose attention she’s always longed to capture. No short review will ever do this book justice, honestly; it’s such a fascinating view into so many different realms. It touches upon the art world, publishing, the struggles of balancing motherhood with a highly successful writing career, elder care, and coping with an extremely difficult parent, and it’s written with incredible grace. Five stars.

Historia
In 1873 the people of Labette County, Kansas made a grisly discovery. Buried by a trailside cabin beneath an orchard of young apple trees were the remains of countless bodies. Below the cabin itself was a cellar stained with blood. The Benders, the family of four who once resided on the property were nowhere to be found. The discovery sent the local community and national newspapers into a frenzy that continued for decades, sparking an epic manhunt for the Benders.

Historia
They were confidantes to British prime ministers, poets, writers, and artists, their lives entwined with the most celebrated and scandalous figures of the day, from Oscar Wilde to Henry James. They were the lovers of great men - or men of great prominence... They lived in a world of luxurious excess, a world of splendor at 44 Belgrave Square and later at the even more vast Clouds, the exquisite Wiltshire house on 4,000 acres, the "house of the age", designed in 1876 by the visionary architect Philip Webb - the model for Henry James' The Spoils of Poynton.

Don’t miss this glory of a book!
Revisado: 10-26-21
Barrister and talented researcher Claudia Renton weaves this fascinating tale of the wild Wyndham sisters with a novelist’s ear for storytelling, making this biography absolutely SING. I prefer to read about history through the prism of biographies of high-spirited women. This lovely book did not disappoint.

Revisado: 03-16-21
If you’re a fan of WUTHERING HEIGHTS & the Bronte sisters, this is the the perfect novel for you! I loved how funny the writer’s voice was, and the modern retelling of this much-beloved tale is just so well-done and fun! Five stars for sure.
