As the tagline says, this was supposed to be stories about new doctors whose first experience was during the height of the pandemic. Unfortunately, more than half the book was political and social commentary. There was a strong emphasis on discrimination against minorities. All of the doctors came from minority groups. However, I saw no evidence presented that these individuals were discriminated against. I would have much preferred more case studies illustrating the challenges added to these new doctors because of the pandemic.

Good Christian Fiction

Overall this was a pleasant listen. Nothing objectionable. The narrarator's reading was slightly stilted at times and that was distracting. Characters are only moderately developed and the plot was simple. Good Christian values displayed throughout.

Even better than the Martian

I really enjoyed this story. The performance of the narrator was also outstanding. He really captured the personalities of the characters. I commend the author for vastly decreasing the amount of profanity in this book over The Martian. He showed that an outstanding novel doesn't have to be liberally peppered with obscenities. I will note that the story is not free of profanity and that again begs the question, why add any at all? This story is not fantasy. The author really delves into the math and science that support the narrative. As in all fiction, it is necessary to refrain from dissecting the logic somewhat, but Hail Mary is crafted in such a way that you don't even think about any doubtful science. You are perfectly willing to accept the story as is.

Enjoyable for those interested in early aviation

This book reveals the stories of early (1920's and 1930's) women aviators. It covers their successes and failures. It also brings to light the extreme discrimination leveled against these women.

An engaging story by a talented writer

"I really enjoyed that book, but I really wish it had more profanity!", said no one EVER! Christopher Paolini is an extremely talented and dedicated storyteller, however I cannot comprehend why he, and most authors of adult fiction, find it necessary to pepper their dialogue with expletives. No meaning would be lost without them. This book was one if the most engaging tales I've read in recent history, but I nearly quit reading it. Has our language really devolved to the point that gifted writers cannot express the meaning, tone, emotion or emphasis without using the basest of words?

Enjoyed the story and performance

I was amazed to learn that this is one of her earliest works. It's very well written and kept my interest. My only criticism is the ending. It feels unfinished like an unresolved chord. You know how you want things to turn out, but you're not given the satisfaction of knowing.

I really enjoyed this one. As always, I could do without the expletives. I don't need that amount of realism. Overall the story kept me interested and entertained throughout.

Not what I'd want my teen to read

This series has been interesting and the writing is generally quite good. However, this book was filled with needless profanity and heartless killing. Also, it often used religious (specifically Christian) references in a derogatory way. Finally, the conclusion was disappointing. Several books worth of story that led to not much. Hard to tell how much was even real.

Authentic

Good story and great reader. The characters are authentic to the time and region. Only complaint is that the story line was predictable at times.
