I’ve had this book in my library for a while, but could never get into it because of the narrator. Like some of the other reviewers, he sounds like a middle aged professor, and the dialog just didn’t sound right. I would love to hear him narrate a crime novel where the characters are older. Over all I enjoyed the story line and the characters.

I really enjoyed this story. This is my first Jodie Slaughter experience and I will definitely look into her book offerings. She handled mental illness delicately. I can tell she spent time researching symptoms and treatment choices for different types of anxiety and I appreciate her efforts. I wish she had spent some time researching bingo. Then she would know the highest number on bingo cards is 75, not 92. For me, small details like this really take away from a story because as soon as I hear
or read something I know to be incorrect, I’m spending time asking myself, did she just say G 92, and my mind immediately distracted because I’m thinking, wait a minute… Those moments take away from my enjoyment of the overall story. The narration for me was slow. Her voice was pleasant and I kept expecting her cadence to change for each character, but it didn’t, so I had to listen at 1.2x speed. Otherwise I think Ms Pean did a great job. Again, I will most assuredly look for other Jodie Slaughter book, this One was worth the time and credit.

I really enjoyed the story. Simon is a real character. Brash, but not too over the top and extremely entertaining. I love Myka. She knows what she doing and would not let Simon throw her off her game. The background sound affects were a little off putting in the beginning but I eventually started to looking forward heading them. Overall a really good book.

I read this book on my Kindle, and loved it. So I decided to get the audio version. I tried to listen, but the narrators' "Austin" voice is just irritating. I've attempted to listen several times. I enjoyed all the other voice variations for the other characters, but I can't stomach Austin's' voice.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, thus my expectations for book 2 was not very high. In my experience very few authors devote as much attention to books 2 and 3 in a series as they do to book 1. Not so with Maya's McCabe series. Alaric and Keeley's story touched every inch of my heart. Their story caused laughter and a great many tears. I don't remember the telling of a story touching me so. I felt every bit of pain they felt leading up to their separation.

The narrator did a wonderful job. During the telling of book 1, when speaking as a gentleman she often sounded like a bad Dracula imitation. But her dialect improved greatly during book 1 and was impeckable during book 2.

I'm going to start book 3 now and I'm looking forward to the adventure.

This is the first Robert Crais novel I purchased. I bought it to read on a road trip and fell in love on the road between Michigan and Louisiana. I bought the audio version because it's become a new habit of mine, buying the audio version of novels I've already read to see if I get the same feel for the story.

James Daniels interpretation of the characters and story is just like I imagined. I want Joe Pike on my team. When he commits himself to a cause, he's not going to stop until it's resolved, not always to his liking, but he’s going to work it until the threat is over. He has a strong sense of right and wrong and walks the hard line between the two.

In “The Watchman”, there's nothing he won't do to protect Larkin, but when the identity of those tracking her and the reason behind their pursuit of her becomes murky Joe decided to turn the table and start tracking the trackers. That's when it gets interesting. Joe Pike and Elvis Cole are the BEST at taking one small thread of information and knitting together the fabric of what’s really going on with precision and speed. The story is fast paced but you don’t get lost in the telling.

Because of this book I’m now a HUGE Robert Crais fan. This is book 11 in the Cole-Pike series; I bought them all after reading this one. Now I’m slowly purchasing the audio version of the all, what fun!!!

I read the paper version first, simply because I've got the whole series and didn't want to break the chain, so I already knew the story but Luke Daniel's narration made all the characters that much more real. You can hear the tone of Anita's emotions throughout the story; concerned yet mildly irritated, even amused with Cole's off color personality. It changes quickly to desperation; through Luke's narration ALL emotions were felt.

Cole and Pike share a love and friendship that I haven't found in any other series. There's no doubt that once Elvis disappears Joe's going to get him back dead or alive, and if he's dead, there's going to be HELL to pay. NOBODY's exempt from the wrath of Pike. He won't rest until Elvis is found. I would love to read about their first meeting and get a glimpse into the early evolution of Cole and Pike's relationship.

I really, really like John Stone's part in this story. We've seen him as a secondary character in the other Pike stories, but he really proved himself to be a true team player. I'd like to see more of him.

Overall I loved this book. Though it was reputed to be the 4th Joe Pike novel, it was truly a Cole-Pike novel. That's ok too, because they're all great.

Robert Crais' Cole/Pike series is one of the best ever. Without giving away too much about the story line....Joe Pike's is rarely wrong about a persons character. From the moment he heard of the murder of his former friend and his family, and the circumstances the police thought was behind the murder, Joe believed and was determined to prove the police wrong. Joe Pike lives by a set of rules...discipline, unwavering dedication and defending the innocent are at the top of the list... Turst me nobody defends the innocent like Joe Pike.

I really appreciated Robert's narration. It's refreshing to not have to wade through a lot of awful accents (this book has a lot of Serbian characters). He just told the story, and he did a wonderful job.

I've read all of 15 of the Cole/Pike nivels and they keep getting better and better.

This, the first of 4 books in the series is my favorite. It sets the foundation, and introduced the main characters of the series. Cameron is a man's man. He loved his parents unconditionally; therefore he's able to love his brothers unconditionally. Despite the questionable circumstances under which Seth came into the family, he was accepted simply because their father asked them to take care of him. That settled it. Cam's less than stellar housekeeping skills are hilarious; the dishwasher scene is classic. This book will make you laugh and cry, which in my book makes for an excellent read/listen.

I read all four, and am looking forward to experiencing them in their audio version.
