Love or Hate: I HATED
Revisado: 02-03-25
Weird sci-fi full of despicable people who enjoy killing & ruining as many lives as possible along with foul-mouthed acerbic talking dolphins. Only one nice guy & his 2 sci-fi cats. Extreme amount of cursing, especially f***. Only book I’ve read that I wanted to be over after the first 10 pages but obligated for Book Club. I think you’ll love or hate it.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Revisado: 10-31-23
I highly recommend this Audible recording of P&P. Regardless if you have read the book umpteen times as I have, listening to the story, read beautifully by the narrator, seems to come to life in lovely ways I didn’t obtain from my readings. I will listen again & again to this book.

A Delightful British Mystery
Revisado: 01-27-23
A. A. Milne developed intriguing characters other than Winnie, Piglet, & Tigger! An enjoyable who, how & why murder mystery that kept me listening way past my bedtime! I wish Milne had written more adult books. To my understanding, he wrote this one for his father, a mystery lover.

Sweet Christmas Story. Excellent Narration.
Revisado: 12-19-22
An Old-Englishman whose personality resembles the modern-day Grinch, struggles mightily with his internal & external emotions. The adorable children are personified so well that I wanted to invite them here to share our holiday season! Furthermore, the Narrator is beyond superb. I will search her name for Audible books narrated by her rich, full voice and well-appropriated characterizations.

Engaging American Revolution Tale
Revisado: 09-29-22
I had little hopes to enjoy this historical fiction novel since personally, I didn’t find the title appealing. How wrong I was! This book is an engaging tale of events before and during the American Revolution. The author did thorough investigative research before writing about characters, events, and locations down to small details such as the weather on an actual date. Many characters were real people, the most well-known being John & Abigail Adams who are major figures throughout the novel. A true litmus test for my level of enjoyment about a book centers on the feelings I have when finished reading. Yes, I was sad this one had to end…an A+ rating for me! I also felt personally enriched that I learned more about this important time in America’s history. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy novels set during the American Revolution, particularly books centered on women “left at home” to survive and maintain the new country their men were fighting for.

Historia
Barchester Towers is the second of six in the series known as Chronicles of Barsetshire. Narrator Timothy West brings life to the story, begun in The Warden, of Mr. Harding and his daughter Eleanor. It chronicles the struggle for control of the English diocese of Barchester after one Bishop dies and a new one is selected. The rather incompetent new Bishop, Dr. Proudie, led by his formidable wife, and ambitious chaplain, Mr. Slope, begin to create turmoil with their desire to shake up the church establishment.

A Lovely Mini-Series!
Revisado: 07-20-22
If you enjoy a lengthy yet engaging tale rich with vibrant historical British fictional characters, full of mighty attributes yet humanly flawed, I highly recommend this well-written novel. I would thoroughly revel n a BBC Mini-Series based on this work, resplendent with appropriate landscape cinematography and detailed inner conversations many characters have with themselves. After this enrapturing book, I want to linger among small English village churches. More importantly, I am behooved to look deeply within myself at some good as well as some undesirable traits, those seen and unseen, known and perhaps, until this reading, even when unknown to me. Thank you, Mr. Trollope, for lovingly encouraging me to do so.

Historia
Hamish Macbeth ambles over to the nearby backwater of Drim, ostensibly to check out a posh English chap who is causing a most unusual problem. Single, wealthy, and terribly attractive, newcomer Peter Hynd has thrown the middle-aged matrons of Drim into a flutter and put their men, dour Highlanders whose feelings run deep, on a slow burn. Hamish’s instincts tell him this seemingly charming young man likes to stir up trouble, and it’s not long before the seething emotions transform the sleepy village into a hotbed of threats, domestic rows, and violent murder.

Unpleasant & Dour
Revisado: 06-11-22
I’ve read the Hamish Series in order, delightfully relishing most of them as I perform rote tasks or drive long spells. Even though the series plot lines remain similarly scripted as well as the unfolding of the mysteries at the end, I like the main character personalities & idiosyncrasies in addition to the cast of community figures. HOWEVER…for me, this novel lacked any endearing qualities on any front, character or plot wise. Even the two main characters are irritable & I couldn’t wait for this one to end. It almost seemed the writing was done hurriedly or while in a depressive state. I’m hoping for a better story & something enjoyable for listening in the next book.
