Historia
The ancient city of Troy has withstood a decade under siege of the powerful Greek army, who continue to wage bloody war over a stolen woman - Helen. In the Greek camp, another woman watches and waits for the war's outcome: Briseis. She was queen of one of Troy's neighboring kingdoms until Achilles, Greece's greatest warrior, sacked her city and murdered her husband and brothers. Briseis becomes Achilles' concubine, a prize of battle, and must adjust quickly in order to survive a radically different life, as one of the many conquered women who serve the Greek army.

Historia
It is just before the outbreak of World War I, and Britain must enlist the aid of Russia. Czar Nicholas' nephew is to visit London for secret naval talks with Lord Walden, who has lived in Russia and has a Russian wife, Lydia. But there are other people who are interested in the arrival of Prince Alexei: the Waldens' only daughter, Charlotte - wilful, idealistic, and with an awakening social conscience; Basil Thompson, head of the Special Branch; and, above all, Feliks Kschessinky, the ruthless Russian anarchist.

Armitage at his (villainous 😉) best!
Revisado: 09-17-18
Richard Armitage has a knack for humanizing characters typically thought of as “bad guys” and he does so here with Felix, the antagonist. He voices all the characters, male and female, in a sympathetic and convincing manner. The result is a gripping listen where you are able to understand and empathize with all sides of the story. I will definitely listen again!

Historia
When Arabella first arrives in London, she has only one mission: to snare a rich husband. With a mind to beat the competition, she pretends to be a rich heiress and soon finds herself the talk of the town, pursued by the most eligible bachelors in the city. But she has her sights on one man only: the much-hunted Mr Beaumaris. Our feisty heroine puts up a fight and deals the worldly-wise Beaumaris a deft hand in the game of love; at first grudgingly charmed, he soon becomes smitten.

Another Heyer winner read by Phyllida Nash!
Revisado: 10-02-16
Arabella is a classic Heyer heroine and Phyllida Nash does justice to all the character's voices, both male and female.

Historia
It is in regrettable circumstances that beautiful Judith Taverner and her brother Peregrine first meet Julian St John Audley. The man, they both agree, is an insufferably arrogant dandy. But unfortunately for them, he's also the Fifth Earl of Worth, a friend of the Regent and, their legal guardian.

Great narration of a thrilling story!
Revisado: 09-16-16
June Barrie does a fantastic job of acting both female and male voices in believable, strong and steady tones. No screeching females nor affected males here!
The story is a Heyer classic; strong male meets strong female, he loves her, she hates him (at first) and it's a long, torturous road to a HEA.
I highly recommend both the audiobook and the book!

Penniless Elinor is rather surprised at the carriage that meets her from the stage, and more so at the decayed grandeur of the house to which she's transported. Realising that there has been a case of mistaken identity she agrees to an audacious plan.

Could not finish it!
Revisado: 09-08-16
I started listening to audiobooks performed by Richard Armitage so the bar was set high. Mr. Garrett has a lovely voice and reads well, but his performance of certain characters was so affected that I was distracted from the story and could not get a feel for the emotions of the character. His style might work better in a parody.

Screechy female characters!
Revisado: 10-10-15
The narrator has a nice reading voice, but the voices she uses for many of the female characters, including Elizabeth (!!), become screechy and are hard to listen to! I have stopped listening many times and am not sure I will be able to finish this audio book.
