awesome part two, as magical as the first
Revisado: 04-01-23
perhaps a little repetitive at times it was still a great part two to The Belles with the same rich, expansive world and attaching heroine... though I think Charlotte is my favorite character just because of how amazing the narrator is at giving her a voice of her own. 10/10 great antagonist

Historia
Zafira is the Hunter, disguising herself as a man when she braves the cursed forest of the Arz to feed her people. Nasir is the Prince of Death, assassinating those foolish enough to defy his autocratic father, the sultan. If Zafira was exposed as a girl, all of her achievements would be rejected; if Nasir displayed his compassion, his father would punish him in the most brutal of ways. Both Zafira and Nasir are legends in the kingdom of Arawiya - but neither wants to be.

not quite there
Revisado: 12-31-22
full of good ingredients (if a little melodramatic), it's what bind them together at the end that fails. too much tell not much show, little character arc. Altair and Nasir's banter is definitely the best part of this book

Historia
Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of 17 princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most - a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian's heart to the Sea Queen and or remain a human forever.

awesome book
Revisado: 08-07-18
Though it contains plenty of references and nudges to The Little Mermaid, To Kill a Kingdom drops most of the plot line of the original tale to return to a more cruel, deadly interpretation of the siren character. The book might be a little short for the scope of the world it was setting up and it leaves us with a lot of things crammed in the last 3rd. That said, it doesn't suffer too much for it and def an enjoyable read.
Think of Lira as Manon BlackBeak getting her own book exept she's a Siren. If you like your protagonists a little ruthless, you'll love this book
