Just days after the Liberation of Paris, US Army Detective Billy Boyle and Lieutenant Kazimierz are brought to Saint Albans Convalescent Hospital in the English countryside. Kaz has been diagnosed with a heart condition, and Billy is dealing with emotional exhaustion and his recent methamphetamine abuse. Excellent story
Revisado: 07-13-24
I've enjoyed the Billy Boyle series; this book is no exception. The story introduces aspects of WW2 intelligence activities that I didn't know about, even though I’ve read many books about them and watched several documentaries. The characters are well-developed, and I look forward to reading or listening to more of their stories. The narration is excellent and adds to the story.

Historia
Anthony Opoka and Florence Okori are coming of age in Uganda in the 1990s. Outstanding students, they believe in being good humans before they are kidnapped and forced into the fanatical Lord’s Resistance Army. In a legion of young recruits, no one gets closer than Anthony to powerful messianic warlord Joseph Kony and his darkest secrets. To stay sane as he spirals through chaos, Anthony clings to his childhood lessons about being a good human. Florence’s upbringing grounds her, too, helping her keep her dreams alive even as she’s pulled deeper into the insanity of Kony’s war.

Deeply humane story
Revisado: 06-11-24
This is one of the best stories I’ve listened to. Now, I’ll read the book to experience another way. I think this is the second time I’ve done that. The story of the people is beautifully told so that their humanity shines through all the horrific events of their young lives. I thought I might be put off by the horror, but the ways they survived were truly uplifting.

Historia
In March 1865, the long and bitter War between the States is winding down. Till now, 23-year-old Simon Boudlin has evaded military duty thanks to his slight stature, youthful appearance, and utter lack of compunction about bending the truth. But following a barroom brawl in Victoria, Texas, Simon finds himself conscripted, however belatedly, into the Confederate Army. Luckily his talent with a fiddle gets him a comparatively easy position in a regimental band.

Beautiful story
Revisado: 12-04-23
This is an exceptionally well written novel and Anne Perry’s last. She captured the intrigues that filled the Byzantine world after recovering Constantinople and before the death of emperor Michael VIII. The narration added to the story. I think I’ve read or listened to most of Anne Perry’s books and I think this is my favorite. I always looked forward to reading her next book and am sorry there will be no more.

Historia
Often compared to both Ruth Rendell and P.D. James, Deborah Crombie is internationally acclaimed for her deftly written mysteries that combine suspense, with lyrical prose. Sharply etched characters further enrich this story of tangled relationships and dark secrets. Twelve years after their divorce, Scotland Yard Superintendent Duncan Kincaid receives a phone call from his ex-wife Victoria asking for his help.

The private, quiet “Miss White" as Elinor is known, lives in a village in rural Kent, England, and to her fellow villagers seems something of an enigma. Well she might, as Elinor occupies a "grace and favor" property, a rare privilege offered to faithful servants of the Crown for services to the nation.

Shallow characters
Revisado: 02-22-22
I’m very disappointed with this story. The main character is a woman who is unable to self-regulate her emotions enough to avoid putting the lives of people she cares about in danger. The other women in the story are equally as incompetent or more so. In this story women are feeble minded and ruled by their emotions. Men are generally rational and cold.

Story of Survival During WWII
Revisado: 01-29-18
Once I started listening to this story, it was hard to stop. I always enjoy listening to narrations by Michael Page. The story's well-developed characters came to life with his performance. The characters' philosophical debates added an interesting perspective and depth to a fascinating story of survival during WWII.
