The characters all sound the same
Revisado: 06-20-23
I wanted to read this classic title, so gave this audiobook a try. Unfortunately, Gyllenhaal doesn't have the skill of character voices. Every one of them, male and female, sound so similar I had a hard time knowing who was speaking. She has a pleasant voice, but audiobook narration is a completely different skill from screen acting, and a celebrity narrator doesn't guarantee a good performance. I gave up on this one.

Phenomenal world and performance!
Revisado: 06-20-23
First off, Michael Kramer's narration of this series is superb. His character voices are distinct and unique, and particularly with Wayne who puts on accents like clothes, his skill is incredible. Bravo!
Sanderson's premise is so unique, and the characters he creates to inhabit his worlds are well developed, incredibly fascinating, and you really invest in the story. No spoiler, but this book squeezed a few tears out of me.
I love that this is a different era of the world of Mistborn, it's unusual to see an author move a world forward in time and technology and I honestly loved this wild west meets industrial revolution more than the original books in the series (though I certainly enjoyed those as well). The characters are more approachable and endearing

Super slow start and monotone narration
Revisado: 06-20-23
Five hours into this book and it's a struggle to pay much attention. The narrator has a very measured pace that doesn't vary in the slightest. There's no change in the tone to reflect what's happening or what the MC is experiencing. The opening hour of this book is what hooked me, Carth's game in the city of following and eluding with her parents ending in the setup for the whole story moved along nicely, but then it got stuck in a rut for the next four hours when we finally (at hour five) get to where she discovers her powers of being Shadow Blessed. I liked the concept but doubt I will get much further before giving up and moving on to something with better pacing in my queue. I wanted to love it, but it's just not delivering so far.

Great info
Revisado: 06-29-22
Some really interesting insight and actionable advice in this book. Narrator was not a good choice however; this book is about pitching to executives or forming business relationships and having a powerful presence "In the Room" but the voice sounded more appropriate for a guided meditation and got a bit lost in the ambient road noise of commuting so I frequently had to skip back to try and catch what was said when I listened in the car.

get the print version instead
Revisado: 06-29-22
The narration is unlistenable, it's so staccato and awkward that it's difficult to follow the flow of the information. I got the print version as the content is valuable. I wish the author hadn't tried to narrate it himself, and had hired a professional, like the other books in the Save the Cat series have, since I enjoy listening to books on my commute.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

This is the story of Corlath, golden-eyed king of the Free Hillfolk, son of the sons of the Lady Aerin. And this is the story of Harry Crewe, the Homelander orphan girl who became Harimand-sol, King’s Raider, and heir to the Blue Sword, Gonturan, that no woman had wielded since Lady Aerin herself bore it into battle. And this is the song of the kelar of the Hillfolk, the magic of the blood, the weaver of destinies …

Narration doesn't add anything
Revisado: 06-17-21
I have read and reread most of McKinely's books since my teens, especially her earlier works, like Beauty (my favorite!) I got some on audiobook to listen to while doing housework or commuting. Unfortuantely, I mostly prefer the voices in my head (ha!) over the narrated ones...
This narrator isn't an appropriate choice. The heroine is youthful, but the narrator sounds late middle aged. There is no variation to the voices making it difficult to keep track of who is speaking - even between male and female there is no real distinction. The pacing is entirely too slow. At 1.2x it feels more natural, and at higher speeds is still perfectly intelligible. And the incessant inhale mouth noises...yeesh. She's a decent narrator, just not so well suited to YA fantasy with it's myriad of characters, action, and emotional demands of the material that the listener would expect from the genre. Her narration would be better for non-fiction or especially an autobiography where her tone and pacing would give a really lovely sense of introspection.
As I have the same list of complaints about the narrator for the Hero and the Crown (also by McKinley, and also produced by RecordedBooks) it is perhaps more the fault of the production house for their casting decision than anything. (And the editing)

Narration too hard to listen to
Revisado: 01-28-21
Not all authors make good narrators, and unfortunately, this is the case here. The halting and choppy narration is so distracting I keep losing focus and though I am more than halfway through the book, I couldn't really tell you much about the content. It's probably better read than listened to, but I have found other books that I prefer and am not likely to buy the paperback nor finish the audio.

Historia
"Do you have any notes for me?" Actors always ask for notes on their performance, and they will take them from just about anyone. Ron Marasco's Notes to an Actor grew out of the actor's profession. In his years as an actor, scholar, and teacher of acting, Mr. Marasco found that most acting books were either outdated classics that were rarely read, or quasi-textbooks that actors only "skimmed." So he developed Notes to an Actor, a compact, user-friendly audiobook geared specifically to the way actors work.

Excellent content, but needs proofing
Revisado: 12-30-20
First off, excellent content, really insightful and useful information! 5 stars for content and author/narrator.
However, I can't believe this is an AUDIBLE STUDIOS production. there were MANY times where the narration was repeated, or misspoken and then corrected that weren't edited out. I am a narrator for audible books, and I cringe to hear this from the Audible team, who should be as capable at proofing their productions as the independent narrators. C'mon guys, this is a disservice to an excellent book. Fix it.
