Historia
The first day of Mia's new life in Grayslake, Georgia, is not going as planned. The house her grandfather left her looks ready to crumble, boxes cover every inch of the floor and - oh - there's a bear cub in her pantry. It gets worse when the cub's uncle comes by and busts out his fur and claws while on her front porch. Then it gets loads better because suddenly there's a hot hunk of badge-wearing werebear on her lawn ready to rescue her.

Interesting Take
Revisado: 01-19-25
lately I've been listening to pretty much almost all shifter books. mainly wolf, but a few different types of wild cat shifter books slipped in for excitement. I mention this for 2 reasons. 1) Because I've never read a book that was about a bear shifter specifically. Yes, there have been male and female bear shifters, but as periphery characters. And 2) Even still, despite my lack of lead bead shifters in my life, I'd still say this one had an interesting take. Why? I'll mention a couple of things that won't give anything of substance away or spoil anything. A) The young kids can automatically shift. B) Everyone was afraid of the Eton (Alpha-type) bear. Even his family and the Enforcer (Beta-type?)
Neither were a distraction or bothered me, but it was different. I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to listening to the next ones in the series. I'm on a purchasing hiatus, so I'll add them to my wish list. 😉

When I found an eviction notice taped on my apartment door, I had two options: find a comfortable cardboard box to call home, or move in with Tucker Jameson. Seeing that cardboard makes me feel itchy, I chose the latter. Which shouldn't be that big of a deal since Tucker is one of my good friends. And because he's still pining after his ex-girlfriend and I'm trying to finish my nursing degree, there is nothing to worry about in the romance department, making my last semester an easy one to conquer. Boy, was I wrong.

I enjoyed the twist of it being the female best friends ex instead of the classic other way around. I loved that the male lead had close friends throughout the story and found it interesting that they were somewhat closer to him than Emma's best friend were to her. Two "meh" things I will say: -I didn't appreciate every moment of the narration, but the story was engrossing and I became invested pretty early on.
- I love Meghan's writing style so I could absolutely tell this was one of her earlier pieces.

With wedding planning underway and a short timeline, my best friend, Lia, has recruited me to help her battle the snarly beast that is Mrs. Beaver. Not scared at all, I accept the challenge as her man-in-waiting--aka, man of honor--and take matters into my own hands. The only problem is, with every second we draw closer to the wedding, I'm starting to see my best girl in a different light. She's always been beautiful to me, but now . . . I find myself staring a touch too long. My hand lingering for one more minute. And when she's upset? Allowing her to sleep in my bed.

Oh, My! This One Has It All!
Revisado: 08-23-24
Admittedly, I have 1 hour and 49 minutes left until I'm done with this book. Here's the thing, though:
The next nearly 2 hours isn't going to make me love this book/story or the performance more than I already do. I love their friendship, their closeness, their chemistry, their camaraderie, how much fun they have together, and even their friends/family. I love this book so much and will be sad to finish it.
My only few complaints are the following:
1) Lia is so insecure and that her "weird" feelings last a teeny bit too long. Yes. It would be weird, but he could have snapped out if it by herself, then talked to him a teeny bit sooner about her friend-losing insecurities, or run things by the girls and been good sooner. I know, I know... that's the story, and the journey was so worth it. I genuinely liked these people!
2) Breaker was a bit obtuse about what she needed and what she was going through. I say this because he knows her so well, so he shouldn't have been such an odd duck about what he was putting her through. In my opinion, that part didn't track as well.

I always love KL books so and this one was no exception! I literally lost giggle tears at 2 am in the morning as I tried to talk myself into stopping after, "just 1 more chapter." Thankfully my poor sleeping hubby wasn't disturbed because I cleverly kept turning my giggles into gentle (pretend) coughs. This book had me rolling from time to time, saying, "Awwww," other times and wondering why these two were so stupid, stuck and stubborn other times. Mind you, as a romance author myself, I realize you can't just write a book with no struggles, misunderstandings, an unrequited element at least somewhat and stuff that just plain makes you mad. It's an authors job! Kaylee is a master nature these things! Plus, her humor makes my eyes leak! Who doesnt need a good laugh?
I get frustrated by reviews that get angry about the narrator(s), and not the content of the book. Authors don't always get to pick and choose their narrators, so this isn't a fair judgment. I wish there was a clearer way to rate the book separately. I also get up in arms when folks say the book was boring, too fast or too slow. People, please remember that sometimes we need to understand how these two folks could fall in love in such a short period of time, which csn seem too slow for people with ahort attention spans or are just lookkng for nonstop sex. Sometimes an author is trying to incorporate some logic into the fantasy. Sometimes a slowish burn like this one is freaking worth it because on the flip side, the description of the love scenes are SO REWARDING and well written, it makes up for all our angst. This one did it for me. Whew. These Half Irish/Half Italian boys in this family are Swoony! I'm definitely lookong forward to listening again and in reading the next in the series!

Good Enough for a Credit
Revisado: 03-04-21
The concept of this book was great. The narration was also great. I always love those two because they do not disappoint.
I am also a romance author, and for us, every book you read has elements you appreciate, love, want to steal (with a twist, of course), get excited about and wish you'd thought of. At exactly the same time there are other elements you hate, want to scream at your chosen device when you hear/read (on my way home from work today), some you wish they'd left out and even some that potentially turn you off to that author for a while. (Or forever!)
For me, this book had a little bit from column A and a little bit from column B. Honestly, the biggest failure to me is that I wasn't allowed to love them. I wasn't given enough info to give myself permission to find them endearing. I didn't like either of them until 2 to 3 chapter's from the end and I'm a lovey-dovey pushover. I've cried to a long distance commercial before.
To me, one of the 3 options are found in a good book: 1) It tells the reader the secret from the beginning and hides it from the characters in the book until near the end. 2) Only pulls the wool over the readers eyes about a single or related group of character(s) at a time and begins to reveal things to the reader about 2/3 or half in. This allows the reader to bond with one of the main characters, which is subconsciously grounding and helps us love what we're reading or 3) A character finds out through a 3rd party investigation or through that characters own research and we learn as they do.
Neither of those happened with Sexy and that's so unlike the other books I've read by JA Huss. Even most of the internal thoughts were mean spirited, spiteful, immature and fickle. To me this book WAS WORTH THE CREDIT AND TIME. I would, however, suggest going into the listen with the knowledge that its not huge on character development. I still don't know the reasons WHY they did anything they did exactly the way did it. Why did they behave the way they behaved?? For a reader/listener, knowing these things is crucial as it helps us fall in love with the characters and the author.. That love creates loyalty, and respect.

Matthew Walsh doesn't have feelings, and he likes it that way. Between breathing life into his family's third generation Boston architecture shop, keeping the peace with his five siblings, and competing in triathlons, he doesn't have much time for feelings. At least that's the case until Lauren Halsted tumbles into his life.

Revisado: 08-30-20
I don't often leave reviews because I listen to about 4 to 6 books a week and most of the time I'm busy at work when they end and I've just got to click a few buttons to get to the next book I've already downloaded to my library.
With respect to this books story and narration, the story was believable and the characters were having very relationship problems. In many of the reviews I read prior to feading/listening, it was a very common theme that people didn't connect with her, didn't like her and found her to be very cruel and undeserving of him.
I disagree with that wholeheartedly. I think the author just did a better job getting into his feelings and thoughts than hers. I think that there wasn't enough back story about either of them, but mostly her. The whole, "I don't have time for a relationship only goes so far in the face of heat, passion and a lifetime-tyle of love. The author allowed this girl to kind of act like a jerk but there was no real explanation as to why she was so blind to her goals that she was willing to treat him poorly, but again, we have no idea why. Her friends had careers that they tweaked to have a personal life, her parents were in a living decades long relationship and both had fulfilling careers at some point. Why would she think it couldn't happen for her? People do both all the time and if you're with someone who supports your initiative, understands the time needed for such an endeavor and wants you to succeed... that's a good thing to seek. Not through away.
Another thing that could have been fleshed out more is her relationship with her friends. it seems like they were only surface friends, "in real life," but the author said they had been super close. The separating of their friendship because of their changing lives is a choice. Not a foregone conclusion. She should have talked to r
her real friends about her real problems. She didn't talk to anyone about it and that doesn't seem real.
Anyway, that's my 2 to 5 cents on the topic. I enjoyed the book, appreciated the spice level, the dirty talk was a nice addition to their sexual tension and desires. The female narrator could have out a little more feeling into her voice. I've listened to her multiple times and feel like her female voice lacks inflection and depth and if she's reading a book like this one who doesn't have a strongly sympathetic female character, it can hurt the readers perceptions of the book.
The male narrator can, as the sexually thirsty ladies say, "come and get it." He has a great voice for narration and knows how to use it. ;-D

Revisado: 08-29-20
I just loved this book! It was so good! Sometimes I read reviews and am shocked to read people complain about a love that was fallen into easily. Or that there wasn't enough conflict. I say that books like this one are a lovely change of pace. I have 4 unfinished books right now because I was exhausted! I couldn't listen to another minute of the constant drama, my eyes were tired of all the weeping thats wrong out of me when I'm reading and I was spent after all the mad and frustrated I get when reading a story with yet more traumatic moments, toxic main chapters (until the last 4 pages of the book where all the awful treatment is forgiven and they live happily ever after, of course) and stupid, immature heroines misunderstand, have tantrums, feel little, small or unattractive.
A great example of emotional maturity is that she set mature boundaries from the beginning. Another was that our sexy hero didn't get mad at her for keeping her past from him. He didn't assume that she had been cheating on the douche bag ex with him. Plus he left it up to her to take care of things because she had things under control. I love that!
Anyway, this story, the narration an their entire relationship was a delight to read from beginning to end. I hadn't read anything by this author before, but I'm a huge fan now!

The first time I laid eyes on Lydia Decker, I couldn’t speak. Or breathe. Or string two coherent thoughts together. And I don’t mean any of that figuratively. No, when I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker - my physical therapist - I was lying flat on my back in the ICU, high as a kite on painkillers, breathing on a ventilator, my bones as broken and splintered as my spirit. She said she’d been assigned to fix me. But what I didn’t know...what I couldn’t possibly know...was that Lydia Decker needed fixing far more than I ever did.

I Loved This Book!
Revisado: 08-18-20
I almost never, literally ever leave reviews because I listen to roughly 6 books a week and decided a while back that I just don't have the time for all those reviews. HOWEVER, I simply could not skip past this review page.
This book has offers us all the feels! Tragedy tears, giggle-tears, hilarious moments, logical moments, a real indepth look into their thoughts without making the inner dialog so long that you forget there's someone else in the scene or in the book. It's really, very good!
Oh, and did I mention that there is a ton of super hot sex in this book? So. Much. Hot. Sex. The most amazing part about that is the author enjoys writing pretty detailed sexy stuff, but there are long stretches where the couple are getting to know each other and the passion and anticipation between them (and us too) is allowed to build.
Oh, and the nick names are adorable and hilarious. I wish I could be a part of their family! So sweet and hilarious! Their love for each other and the way they have each other's backs, it's heartwarming to read about such a close knit family! Sigh.
In my opinion, this was a great book and worth the 10 plus hour listen and a credit if it's not in Audible Escape.

Revisado: 03-12-20
Tears, I say? Yes, but they were mine. I cried happy and sad tears depending on what part I was listening to. Honestly, this book got my heart involved. I loved them both so much, loved the supporting characters, loved the story, and loved their fights. Several times, I was fed up and frustrated about her negative internal dialog as well as his dude misconceptions about all kinds of things. This is in my top 10 favorites!

I'm getting really good at cutting my losses. First, the husband. Divorcing him was the best decision I ever made. But between single-parenting and job-hunting, I can't catch my breath. When a celebrity blogging position falls into my lap, I'm determined to succeed. That is, until I get my first assignment and actually see Noah Frazier for the first time...practically naked and dripping wet. My heart races and I forget how to form complete sentences. His chiseled abs, irresistible smirk, and crystal blue eyes are too perfect to be real. So, what do I do? Get drunk and humiliate myself, of course.

So Good!
Revisado: 02-21-20
I listen to an average of 6 books a week, so I don't often take the time to leave reviews. This time, however, I simply had to. First off, this series has been one of my absolute favorites!
Secondly, I really appreciated that the characters were real, live, mature adults. So many heroines are immature and selfish. Many heros are either too alpha or too hipster. Noah was a man in every sense of the word. Christine was lovely, and had the perfect balance of mama bear and sex kitten. Her personality was great, her sense of humor was perfect, she was no nonsense, down to earth... I just loved her!
Thirdly, this story was near to my own story of putting my career on hold with the 2 kid family, verbally and emotionally abusive, white-collar husband.
Fourthly, the series is fantastic! Many would think, "these guys have fantastic and unique careers and they all fall in love with the girl next door? Yeah right." The part that makes the difference, allows us all to believe this all makes sense and in fact seems feasible? There fantastic and unique careers are all second nature to these men; a second skin. The ease allowed them to have a maturity to their thinking and they all realized that they were just jobs and were thus not as or more important than their families. There are likely more, but the last I'll mention here is that they were all mature, had no reason to fight being an adult and weren't ever out to hurt because they were hurt.
I laughed out loud, I cried real tears and I realized I was smiling with my whole face quite a few times. These are the signs of a great book!
Plus narration with these two is always stellar.
